Pele - Goddess of Fire and Volcanos

Pele is the Hawaiian Goddess of Fire and Volcanos. She is both creator and destroyer, a Goddess who devours the land.
Pele controls the great flows of lava and molten fountains of the great volcanos. She is also known for her violent temper
which reveals itself through great eruptions in volcanos throughout the island of Hawaii.

This week we would like you to design Pele, Goddess of Fire and Volcanoes.

The Guidelines:

• Must be human female
• Must be Hawaiian and this must be evident in your design
• Remember the 3/4 rule

The Rules

• Finals must be posted in the finals thread before the deadline
• Final post must include the CHoW number and the artists username at the bottom of the image
• At least 3/4 of the character must be visible
• Sketches or rushed artwork will not be accepted into the poll
• At least two wips posted with your final in the finals thread
• Background is optional

SWEET! Since I'm originally from Hawaii I'm definitely down with this weeks contest!
I've always thought about designing her before but never actually did it,
this'll finally push me to draw her.

MasterTroglodyte - Cool idea. I think the composition gives you an opportunity to do something really interesting with the scale and lighting. Try messing around with the perspective a bit, over emphasize the scale / depth, maybe make her hand bigger so it appears closer to the viewer? Maybe you could add some clouds or fire between her left hand and torso too, to increase the depth. Also some uplighting could be awesome, from the errupting volcanos.

Pixeltuner - what an explosion of energy and colour! oodles of character and style, great start.

Here is mine. Trying to tell a story, villagers venturing into the heart of the volcano to offer a sacrifice / gifts, Pele appears and will decide their fates.

MasterTrog! You GOTTA change her pose bro. She is either going to pee into that volcano, or sit on it, or continue enjoying it's warm steam. Is my mind in the gutter? Maybe, but I won't be the only one I promise you! If you want to cover her up, I would recommend not using her hand to do so. Just put smoke in front of her bits instead. Good luck!

I gotta say. Have you ever heard of angry Hawaiian music? I'm listening to one of my favorite Pandora stations "Hawaiian Radio" and well, I gotta tell ya. Not a whole lotta anger. Definitely no violence. And just try to find a picture of an angry Hawaiian woman. lol....

I am really trying to emphasize that this is a character design, so I'm not going for an extravagant background/scene. Wanted to really nail down the basic pose and idea.

Here is my first WIP. I'm trying to make it like her rage is starting to build, by showing the transition on her skin color, from cold to warm.

My butt hurts from this crappy chair and hands are hard to render! Don't worry, all the lava and stuff will be there, just painting the first layer of it all.
