How are the colors, composition, idea, perspective? Worth finishing?

I've been working on this for a few hours, and I feel like I might have played it way tooo safe with the background, and made it boring. (camera is at the point of view of the person after getting knocked down from a sword fight with the dude in the middle). I started a thread ( http://conceptart.org/forums/showthr...scape-problems ) the other day about one of my first environments that came out horrible, but I gave some thought into this one, started it off as a thumbnail and got it to this point. There's not much actually in the painting yet but I'm just looking to get some advice from you guys on it so far. And of course, any help is very appreciated

I like it, especially the rough style and the fish eye effect.
That being said, few comments from a beginner:
-colors are bit dull. As the dude is you point of interest maybe you should add him something more saturated or to make him stand out more (excepted the good composition you already made)
-the perspective effect is inconsistant. You have a quite big left foot and knee due to the fish eye effect but the left arm isn't while it's at least as close from the viewer as the knee and foot.
-I don't know if you made it on purpose but his ears are protruding and really catch my eyes.

Ah yes! I see what you mean about the colors and the knee, I didn't even think about it. I'll fix those things right now. Thank you, and yeah, the ears are supposed to be like that. !Name: scene2-2.png

If the point of view is lying on the ground after being knocked out, shouldn't the horizon line be a tad lower? Or maybe he's sitting up? Also, legs for the POV.

I had been thinking that he was getting up after being knocked down, perhaps I'll add something like a sword or shield on the ground to make it like he dropped it upon being knocked down. also I need to even out the horizon line

That looks a lot better, but what was it? was my background just off in it's perspective? Thank you so much. This thread has actually been extremely helpful to me, when I look at the original, I'm immediately struck by my earlier mistakes. I spent some more time on it and this is where it's at now. The problem is not just with the background but also with the figure. The ground is still caught in a downview, while the angle on the castle is in an upview. I guess you wanted some lens curve effect. Still you should reduce the curve by bringing perspectives on castle and ground together a bit more. You might want to add a curve into the horizonal lines too, in order to point out what you went for more obviously. The biggest problem however remains with the figure then. It's extremely challenging to draw a figure in such a space. Tbh I don't even think that it's possible to make it look not weird.

While I don't find it that shocking I see the point of Swamp Thing and he's right. Take a look here http://image.shutterstock.com/displa...-107044079.jpg and here http://ccaafloripa.com.br/novoblog/w...o-fisheye8.jpg at the effect made by ultra wide focales. These are pretty extreme fish eye effect but it shows how it's supposed to be. The background curvature should be the opposite.
Another think, did you try to take this pose. I believe the left foot should be more rotated (and therefore the knee) toward the viewer unless you want to give him some back ache.
