    Overall opinion about this

Edit : last image is the final one and would like your opinion. Every point are good to hear ! Thanks everyone

Yup yup ! I'm working on this one but after finishing the rough of the hammer-axe, I find the initial posture of my penguin a little akward. I need fresh eyes, I tried two variation, what do you think about those 3 positions ? What is the "best" one ?

Oh and acutally the hammer-axe is all messed up with the perspective, do not worry I will change that tomorrow ^^

    Thanks for your help !

I think the changes in the posture are too subtle. It never really strays from being symmetrical. Maybe you could show him in a 3/4 view with the hammer/axe hand coming towards the camera. I figure that would show off the weapon more as well. The shield can be pushed into the background a little since we know what a shield generally looks like.
I would do a PO but I need to sleep.

There is barely a noticeable difference between the three. You are probably overthinking the matter, here.

May be if you make the traditional pic of a hunter with a foot over the head of the animal, you can get a better result.

    best regards

Ahaha, ok, so the first pose do not look wrong to anyone, that's a good point because I was really feeling the left leg was in a strange pose to counterbalance the hammer ^^

It was almost finished so I didn't wanted to change all the pose, except if it was completly wrong, but I take your suggestion and may start an other one from them Thanks for your attention !

edit : oh and you are right assuming I'm overthinking it , it's for a friend and each time I do something for a relative get nervous and try to do something "perfect".

I'm not sure if you wanted advice on anything but the pose. (It looks fine btw) But I felt that I wanted to tell you that I had to read the text to understand that it was supposed to be a penguin. I read the beak as a part of the helmet. It is rare to see a penguins face from that particular angle so it might just be me. Perhaps you could hint at the eyes under the helmet?

I'ts a neat concept and the knocked out dragon is really charming.

I would say push it a little more and give the hammer some weight (tension in the arm), also rotate the hips somewhat - he's a little shoulder/hips on the same plane.

Honestly, when my friend asked me for a "viking warrior penguin who looks like a bully" I found some difficulties to imagine what it could looks like .

I worked from mind and I suppose that's what you are feeling. I think Venger make a good point by changing the beak and the pose is really interesting without changing too much what I already have.

Thanks Frida to point this and thanks a lot Venger for the paint over, I will exaggerate the pose and try to make him more "badass"

Edit : @ pauloricardo : thanks for your encouragement !

Hello... the pose suggested by Venger works well once it shows a good balance as it was ready for combat. Anyway, you achieved a good result with your mix, continue developing it.

    best regards

Little update, I finally managed to work a little on it. But I'm wondering if I'm not loosing "something"... I think it looks like a little more "pengouin" but definitly not happy with the mix realistic-toon. I may go back to toon again, I messed too much with the primary forms

the archetypal bully is the kid whos bigger and stronger than you, maybe flex that a bit to emphasise his physical might compared to the viewers low small POV

also, penguins live in the lands of ice and snow, theres nothing in your pic to tell us hes a penguin really, he could be a kiwi or a wierd monster..

(Okay, after this one I will start an other about "cats and computer". My cat jumped on the keyboard and probably do some unknow and magical shortcut : photoshop won't register anything, no save as, no save, nothing. Even a stroke just disapears as if someone was doing an "undo" without my agreement. If someone have an idea...)

Thanks for the tips, I take that for the iceland, that will add something !

I should have say that before but it was supposed to be a t-shirt design for a friend of a friend (that's for a "get married" party). I started with something simple and push it too far to be a simple "t-shirt picture". Now I think I should continue, the friend will have a t-shirt and a whole illustration, that would be good for my practice too :p

    Update !
Is there something that bother someone ? I tried to keep a (very) simple background but I'm afraid the "mix" can be unpleasant/weird for some people. What's your opinion ?

Here a preview for fun. I have no idea if the final will be okay with a cloth support, but I hope so.

Penguin is nicely designed and rendered. Background, however, seems clumped. You have two things of the same size overlapping right behind the penguin. It's static and without gradation of importance. Dragon clearly should be more important than ice.

How about treating the background more spaciously. Make the dragon bigger, showing only part of it inside the frame. Iceberg can be small and distant. That way you composition opens up to the side and into depth. No more clutter behind the character. You could also use some atmospheric fog to recede the dragon, hinting its size.

I totally missed that it was a penguin until I read the text....Venger's pose is a huge improvement over the initial one but I still have a lot of trouble "reading" the head-on view of his head. If it were me I'd turn his head slightly so the 3D structure of the forms is not so ambiguous.
