Need feedback on a creative assignment design for an art school application

The creative assignment for the art school I'm applying to is:

Graphic Design: Design a postage stamp depicting your favorite fruit or vegetable. Submit an 8" x 8" solution.

This is my first attempt.
I'm hoping to get any kind of feedback on what to add/change because I'm completely stuck..
I wish I could do more than 1 kind of fruit or something

Add some detail to the texture of the orange--right now it feels like a yellow ping-pong ball. Observe and depict the stem more closely. Pick a more assertive typeface.

I thought it was the sun with a lone sunspot, what with the color and uniform texture and the dark falloff towards the edges.

Paint some actual oranges. That would help you to find ways to stylize one.
