trying to go semi pro this year

    Hi there,

i'm Sven and i draw/paint for 4 years now. So it's time to post something to get my motivation back that got lost from time to time cause off my passionate for gaming. Like the thread says it i'm trying to get my skillset ready for being a semi pro, working harder and maybe one day getting a job in the gaming industry.
So here are some exercises i made the last days :

    gouache on postcard format

    copic marker

Doing just drawing and painting for the games industry is the hardest thing there is, but if u never try, you never know! i wish you the best of luck!

Try focussing on the fundamentals first like perspective, color usage etc.

Your Painting skills look nice, but the step to digital is hard, so good luck!

    Maybe these will help,

    Cheers!

    Welcome on conceptart.org!
I'm happy to see next artist motivated to push forward with help of his sketchbook. Establishing one is very good idea, even if you don't get that much (or even none) attention at the beginning.

I'm not even semi pro so I can't really go into details commenting your artworks. Still life drawing are important, I really advice you to do them in order to improve observation skills, it's really helpful (I experience it now myself). However, don't try to paint/draw single object with such hard surface like this microphone. Do compositions of 3/5 (numbers not divided by 2 are better) elements and try to establish their form and shadows + highlight. Don't go into details. That's my advice.
My favourite one is the first painting. Even though it's small and not really detailed colours do their job giving me coloful and neat artwork to look at. It just catched my attention. Second one is too colourful for me and I can't understand form of presented rocks, it also lacks of deep (I can't really see plans like foreground and background). Composition isn't clear enough.

thanks a lot for your advices i appreciate it a lot. with the composition you're just right, my greatest probs are the colors atm. Cause i'm very interested in characterdesign i drawed the whole 4 years anatomical stuff, gestics and so on but have now surely a hard lack of knowlegde in things like perspective and color. thanks u guys made my day to go further, pls feel invited to come back later.

Nothing wrong with having fun, it makes it easier to put in the time to get better. Looking good so far, keep at it.

Nice start, working with traditional media will take you far I think, pretty much everything is easy compared to gouache :p Keep up with the anatomy studies especially; and good luck on your journey to become pro!
"A drawing is not necessarily academic because it is thorough, but only because it is dead. Neither is a drawing necessarily academic because it is done in what is called a conventional style, any more than it is good because it is done in an unconventional style. The test is whether it has life and conveys genuine feeling."- Harold Speed

I hope you reach your goal this year. It is going to take a lot of drawing though, no more hours and hours of vidya games or going out at nights Keep doing them studies and you will be pro before you know it, brah!
