ROUND #286, Gas Filled, and transparent

    topic:

    ROUND#286, Gas Filled, and Transparent

this week we will be testing your ability to illustrate transparent material. the creature you will be designing has an ultra thin transparent membrane that encases a body that is comprised of 90% gasses, and 10% solids.

you do need to include a head, as well as a form of locomotion, that is on the outside of the skin membrane.

the rest is up to you.

    requirements this week...

    - the creatures body must be comprised of 90% gasses, and 10% solids encased in a thin outer skin membrane.

    - the head and a form of locomotion should be included outside of the body encasing.

    Deadline:

    January 29th 7:00pm PST (GMT -8 )

    Gassy Critter 1

Difficult topic. But this guy was fun. Try to see what else I can come up with if there's time. Any word on those stars (lark?

Darnit Alex. You're making it that much tougher to slouch on this one. New sketch.

Thats the plan Scorge Alright I think I've found some design cues on this one I like, going to sleep on these and hit up some more iterations. I'm imagining a sort of grazing beast, moving with the elegance of low gravity, slowly gliding across the landscape on its four legs. Maybe its tendrils are gassed but also weighted, to keep them tethered to the ground.

@scorge - They're both good, but I really like the first one. I can picture that slug looking sicko trolling a forest floor somewhere.

Whiskey Sour: Looking nice man! Maybe some fun stuff going on inside of the gas bag to add a bit more for the eye to gaze at.

Scorge: I dig both of em man, I think the first is my favorite though, it feels a bit more natural, digging the stuff though!

Neacser: Haha that one is looking awesome! no. 2 color combination is my favorite. Would love to see some oranges worked into the translucent parts.

Worked up a few more roughs based off of the bits I liked from the last round. I think I'm leaning towards no.3. Lookin good everybody!

Metal Fingers - I actually really like 2. It has the most interesting body shape to me. They're all good though. The two tone colors and appendage count on 3 is a bit too much in my amateur opinion.

Metal Fingers- I'd have to agree with Dcritelli, love the colours and tendrils of #2

Neacser: The green one is my favourite it has more transparency at this stage, but if you were to develop it further I would say go with the red one. It reminded me a little of a tick, gross creatures haha!

Scorge: Looks great! Love the colours you've given it, the first one is very.. slimy looking yuck haha!

Whiskey Sour: Cool, it's looking octupussy-like ( ), maybe add some extra stuff inside his big bag head to lean more towards transparency!

Dcritelli: Love the middle one, very pre-historic!

I'm probably not gonna meet the deadline but it was fun to work with the description. My designs are weak but it was fun to make glowy blobby things haha.

@Scorge: Thanks for your kinds words in the last COW forum. I hope all is good with you bro. Everything is everything here no doubt, just super busy in the tattoo game and keeping my head above water. Digital painting has indeed become a luxury in my world no doubt. I have been working with Corel Painter more and just go with the flow trying new things here and there as I go a long. Just really trying to put work in on the basics of image making; gotta line up of still lifes and shyt that I am trying to get to. Outside of that just trying to keep values under control, the tattooing throws me off with my other art because in tattoo art you often have to go darker on your darks cause everything heals lighter so when I get back on the digital or traditional painting tip I am all scrambled mentally until I post up mental reminders to self. Everything seems to be falling into place though. I saw a bunch of new stuff that I didn't see from you yet on your deviant art page and everything is looking top notch friend. Seems like your rendering style has changed a bit and all for the better no doubt. I love that you are still crushing beasties in here man and it sucks not seeing all those stars next to your name, you should just have a crown next to your name, lol. Anyway, just wanted to drop a line and also say that I like your first concept for this COW better than the second. The second one looks rough and tough and all that but there is just something about the first one that hits home. Stay best and I look forward to seeing your final. Hopefully I'll get to finish this one but it's not lookin too hot considering the deadline is tomorrow. Oh well, practice is practice right? ttyl
