Flying Penguin... I vote for number 4... I like the shape and bearing of the character...

I think I agree with MasterTroglodyte, but I think it's mainly because #4 has the most interesting outfit design out the rest, but I think that #1 has the strongest pose and attitude about him. Maybe a mix of the two is in order?

Flying Penguin - #2 has the most character to me, I like the pose on #1 as well

Victor Q - nice, thorough thumbnails, I really like the silhouettes and how the wisps go in straight lines.

Here's my wip, I might not get much more done but I ended up liking the idea, old swamp hermit has been searching for years and is finally returning the Heart of the Swamp to its rightful owner.

Eh might as well post my revision I'm still figuring out, instead of clunking it with all the previous edits. Plenty of issues I need to work on, but like it so far. Was originally going to use a giant toadstool for a hat.... thought that would be interesting.... ... then realized.... ... .

Toad from mario.... .... .... Then was going to make it a lilypad. Then remembered someone else did that and I don't wanna flat out take that and don't think I'd get it working. Might change his clothes to a robe and make it more asianish due to the hat obviously. Dunno yet.

and for Penguins. Number 1 has my vote, though mainly for the pose and the action of what's going on. He's just getting dinner lol.

Edit: Ros1 made a good point. So some rework. Though not used to just wiping something out then starting fresh but that's a good thing I guess. Needs major work though. Hopefully can do it by the deadline.

I have this issue of when I try to get all realistic and I drop my contours and in general lines. That once I draw a character it feels very out of place. I need to work on this and pick one way or the other instead of getting a shit mix of the two.

Flying Penguin, I saw this and thought of it as a group of four individuals. I'm thinking LEAGUE OF SWAMP JUSTICE.

Update. I always tend to leave the background until very last - perhaps it's a formula worth re-working.
So many great entries, the description captured my imagination.

I don't even know if the angle and obscurity meets the qualifications, but I did this basically to break out of an artist block, so it met its purpose! This was fun.

    Some nice ideas around here

JFierce - I think you could show some more of his face, now it's maybe to little for a concept...

FlyingPenguin - Cool bunch of guys Every one of them has some cool features, i really can't decide who i like the most. I guess Cyr was right

MrFrenik - Very nice sketches and color ideas. Also cool touch with an enormous rat

VictorQ - I love your drafts, can't wait to see some next steps

Lionsketch - Nice drawing, but i think that now he looks more like an angler than a hermit. Maybe he's just to clean

started them rendering today, gotta get some refs to push it further, I'm feeling a bit uncomfortable with his legs, waddaya guys say?

I'm still gonna wear down his clothes and put the wisps gimmick, so it's far from done.

Maybe tomorrow or saturday I try out some more individual crits/comments, it's almost 4 am here now X_X

Ros1- Thanks man, loved your design and colors =D

Crits and comments are very welcome

Mouzi - That's a cool drawing, welcome to the forums!!
hivibe - My only critique is the background, the dark grey, it gives a lifeless feeling to the image for me, are you going to color? Also he could use a little indication of shadow under his feet and the rod to show the ground plane he stands on. Great work on rendering especially the frog and his face.

Thanks a lot, fersteger2! Yepp, I'm going for color and background for sure, the grey is just temporary. I'll also add more lighting indications to blend him with the background.
I like yours also, but right now the background steals all the attention as it has a lot of the details. I'm sure things will be different once you work more on the character. A trick you might use to quickly filter the image(s) you use for the BG is Filter > Noise > Median if you're in a hurry (quick deadline for ex). And I found this looking through the reference folder I put together for this concept: http://submit.shutterstock.com/forum/files/001_191.jpg It has a similar lighting with yours. Do you plan to go with a hat or just a piece of cloth for the head? http://image.shutterstock.com/displa...a-12679807.jpg

Cool stuff, Benedikt, nice use of textures.

Okay, trying to sketch something a bit more worthwhile - still not sure if I'll finish in time but at least it will serve as practice for SAI

I hooked up a homeless man with some cash the other day, but only because he had the best dreads i've ever seen. These bad boys were touching the ground and in 1 huge clump.

    Cray cray.

Here is a late min hermit. This guy probably smells similar to the homeless dude I donated to.
