    Jono's Sketchbook

    Hey Fellow artist,
My name is Jono Coy I'm 18 from Australia. I hope so see myself in the entertainment industry hopefully as a concept artist once i finish my studies.
Anyway my old sketchbook just became a place to post all my work, and I kind of got off track so I decided to make one strictly to my sketches and WIP's. So feel free to comment and help me become a better artist. thank you and have a nice day

Been practising painting with multiply, colour, colour dodge: etc layers so here is a cave I created.

Needed to practice some metal rendering, was really fun and was eye opening, in the fact of how much the surrounding environment has effect upon the metal itself. Will do more in the future. Let me know what you think.

I took one of my sketches further into photoshop, using mainly the square brush with transfer on pen pressure.

I'm no expert, but...I really like the armor one. Metal is tricky, and my attempts at it are by far not the best, so I'm not sure I'm a good one to judge, but it looks pretty good if that's a first attempt.

Thanks heaps violentwhirlwind. Yeah I struggled with metal to get the right tones. But It seemed to help if I zoom out to make it thumbnail; made the colours seem more obvious and I just need to practise blending and keeping my colours clean. good luck with your metal studies.

Hey, thanks for dropping by my sketchbook!

I really like the the knight armor rendering. I can't even wrap my head around where I would begin to do something like that . I don't know if you already do this, but something I've learned that can help when digitally painting a reference is to flip the canvas horizontally every once and a while. It's suppose to help by allowing you to see an image in a different view and maybe pick up on stuff like angles and proportions that you might have misjudged.

Like I said, I don't know if this is something you already know, just trying to be helpful . Anyway, great work!

    Hey AK, thanks in return

Thank you yeah I wouldn't worry I think everyone has trouble, its hard. I would recommend looking a SINIX on youtube, he has a great tutorial on how to paint armour that's where I got my motivation. I just need to practice more. hahah
Yeah I have been recently doing that but not enough as I should; that's for sure. Any comment is helpful you have reminded me to do it more haha.
    thanks again for dropping by.

Needed a new cover image for my Facebook cover, so I had a few hours and did this, probably could have spent more time on it to create a better design.

Hey Jono, great work man. i will like to suggest that you actually take your time on the drawings because when there's a good drawing there is most likely a great painting. i am trying to draw more myself. you can also do blind contour lines to help with your hand eye coordination keep up the good work.

    Hey Yemi,
    Thanks for commenting.
Haha very wise words I know I seem to get a bit rushed and end up spending way to long on a painting because I haven't planned it well enough or I end up fixing my mistakes from rushing before. But I see your point; and I aim to slow down and plan! haha
    thanks again.

Hey Jonocoy nice to se the different stuff and to see the progression in it. personally do I like things like the witchdoctors and those bird skull worriers. and I think you have done well with the colors tones in the one above. and design wise do I like it a lot. but maybe you should make the arms a bit longer on it. for correct proportion and it can connive even more intimidation if he takes even more space length wise.

thats is never a waist to learn I need to work on that my self to.
but hey does indeed look on the young side. but thats ok I think a young warrior haha.
but making him more muscular, his skin more warred out (less smote) or even skin hair
can help convene age if only the hands are exposed to tell his age.

Yeah I guess a young witch doctor warrior would be pretty badass! ahah Should do a concept of like baby warriors! haha
Thats true, like maybe wrinkles and loose skin. It was pretty had to get a feeling of who maybe be under the mask.
    Thanks for the comments man.

    - Xizt
    Thanks man. Means alot.

Thanks man, yeah I haven't done much mix media. But I really seem to like it; to get the raw line work from sketching and coming into photoshop to add colour and touch up seems to have a great effect.

Finding a old marker sketche from early 2012, I remember this being a re-design of someone else piece. So I didn't design this: to clear that. They use pen a ink I uses markers and pen. I changed a lot of the buildings. If I find the image I was drawing from ill re-post. I really liked the crazy perspective although its completely wrong its still pretty cool.

Haven't been painting much, having some problems getting motivated the past few weeks. Year 12's kinda getting to me. But trying to move past it I managed to squeeze this speed painting out in 45-50 minutes, and I feel a lot better. I'll finish and refine it ASAP. but its sleepy time now!
