Braxton W. Gaither Book of Works ( Sketches and Beyond )

    Hiya People,

Name's Braxton W. Gaither - I draw things, I think, and generally create stuff. Here is a small story of my life, as it stands. I've been on an off and on date with homelessness and with that. I lost a lot of drawings, writings, and things that I had for a long time. I've recently gotten myself back on my feet with a a job and that being the case - I have made time to create. That in mind. Here is some of my artings....

I am still ( and will always be ) learning til my I end of life at some point, but - I am gearing towards getting a job working in film/gaming as a Conceptual Artist. As I am renewing my art and learning along the way - Improving my skills and I would love to hear feed back from everyone. I'd love that, honestly - harsh or not!

    So - Here... we... go!

    Okay.

Maybe I do! So - Then... here you go! The image above is a yearly portrait I draw of myself! This is for this year, 2013. Below is an image of a piece I finished sometime towards the end of 2012 around July just coming out of a year long depression!

Life experiences show in art and there is a lot of feeling conveyed in your art. Beautiful beginnings here. I like to see more

Nice stuff so far. Like aqualeot said, your experiences will definitely inform your art to a high degree, so keep drawing and telling stories with line and color and keep practicing and I know you'll create some amazing works! I look forward to much more from you!

This is an image of a person who is trying to hid behind a mask hoping they are seen as a person behind the fact that they are badly burned in some issue of their past life. It was something I was doing for fun and I have a few other images that accompany this and other fears - I think I might revisit this, but I am unsure.

This was an image I did about a year ago while I was homeless - I was drawing out of simply depression. Using that I made this and later inked it and then once I was able to get myself on some kind of stable standing - scanned it into the computer bits!

    As a thought.

One of the many things I lack is the ability to draw prospective. I've tried over and over, but usually stop shortly after - whether this is simply being hard on myself or not. I always seem unable to get it right. That aside... I try every now and again... and I know I need to continue to try but my motivation for it becomes foreshorten by my impatience. ha.

This is for a small project I'm working on - a book! My book and this character is what you'd called a Wretchen.

    Hi, Braxton!
I am enjoying your line work!
For perspective, I would recommend the book "Perspective Made Easy" by Ernest Norling. First written in 1939, it's simple, basic, and old fashioned, but, it seems to me that the best resources on drawing info always are! It has "problems" to solve at the end of each chapter, and I thought, if I worked through them all, I'd invariably come out of the process knowing and understanding more.... I'll do that one of these days...
    Happy Sketching!

    Thanks everyone : )

Angieb - I that book is actually on my wish list on Amazon. So... That's a thing! I am planning to buy it and a few other books to help with perspective. Perspective has been my number one killer in motivation. Not being poor, homeless, or otherwise given a bad hand. No. Just perspective. lol.

Everyone - I've always thought what I've drawn was no where the quality put out by artist I looked up to when I was growing up! -My father, Jeff Gaither; Derek Hess; and the countless hours dazed looking over comics panels. Not to mention Brom, Frank Frazetta, and Ashley Wood -- All of these have had a large influence in my life. Whether is shows or not is.... purely subjective!

This is my last piece of the night - a girl. It's unfinished, but I plan on finishing it tomorrow before work. Ah... I am going to try to post on here daily considering I sketch just about every day. I do need some help and guidance along the way - so feel free to criticize the pieces! I am trying to gear towards a job drawing... So all the help is needed.

    Thanks again!

Hey bgaither, I'm really liking your sketchbook. The way you use line weight in your drawings is brillient, particulary in your gorilla sketch further up. Great sketches, keep updating!

You have a very delicate and emotional style. You could be a great fine artist. I would love to see more like this http://conceptart.org/forums/attachm...1&d=1358271474

    Thanks, ForScience -

I am planning on doing more work like that, but I have to tame my general disdain of Inking first. Most of the time, when it comes to inking, I lack interest and that kills my motivation - This is why I stick with pencils for the most part. ALSO with inking. I am trying to figure out how to create a true depth within the ink. There is an image I did a few weeks back that was a landscape shot - it had clouds in throughout the top being cut by mountains tops - I was able, through pencils, to give the clouds a kind of sick depth that I am otherwise unable to do with ink.

I have been trying different ways to make the ink less.... I don't know - Inky? lol. Either way... I do plan on doing more pieces like that - as it is apart of a series I am doing. One that deals with different fears embodied in creatures of the night!
