Thanks for stopping by my Sketchbook! I appreciate it! And you're right, I need to do some still lives! I've been thinking about doing a banana...

Are they almonds? Your nuts? Because that's what they look like! Just try really hard to draw what you see. And take it slow.

Ich spreche keine deutch... I think I wrote that right... I, however, do not speak German... But, I translated what you said, and I THINK I understood it for the most part... But sometimes the translators do not work very well and I want to make sure I understand what you said! lol.

Nice job! I would say that you might want to start with the basics such as anatomy studies if you haven't done them already?
I'm also trying to learn how to paint and draw during my non-office hours. I found quick anatomy studies from http://www.posemaniacs.com/ really helped my to warm up and start "seeing shapes and formes as they really are, not how I think they are in my head" (if that makes any sense?).

Draw a few 90 sec poses every day and soon you will get better at shape and form in all your objects You can do it!

Nextra - thanks for your reply indeed i already did some studies until somebody told me its better to start with stills, because from "live" you will learn shapes better. I seriously dont know whats the "better" way. I think i will try to vary a little more

Hey there, thanks for stopping by my sketchbook, I thought I'd return the favour
Don't worry too much about whether your work is "bad" or not, just keep working! We all have to start somewhere, just keep going and you'll improve there isn't a correct way of doing things, so if you want to do some stills, do them! If you want to work on anatomy or anything like that, that's fine too. I like your last landscape post, I love how you added highlights to the tops of the silhouettes, it really brings them out.

I noticed what you said about the nuts being a lot of detail for you right now, if thats how you feel just focus on shapes until you've got them down and can draw things easily from life, then tackle it again. It'll be interesting how it turns out the second time you try drawing them! Obviously I'm far from expert myself, so I'm trying to follow this advice too!

I think the best thing to do is just keep drawing and doing what you're doing Keep up the good work!

Hey w0rmy. Check out the book "Figure Drawing for All Its worth" by Andrew Loomis. It has helped so many people with their figure drawing, myself included. I think you would greatly benefit from taking a look at it.

It's good that you can see what you need to work on and are trying to improve on that, some people can't do that you'll get better with practice!

Looking good, but watch out on those torsos, there are a few that are out of proportion in your last 5 min sketches.

Hi! I wanted to ask, on your sketches like the 5 min pictures, it looks like you're doing those digitally. Are you starting with a rough under-sketch in order to build up the figure and then doing the final lines over that or are you just diving right in and going for your final lines? I ask because I've found that doing some sort of under-sketch helps me build up the figure so I can get the mass and the proportions and helps me out when I do the final lines. I look forward to seeing your posts!

To be honest, i am going straight to the outline. Which is obviously not the best way, as you can see in my VERY GOOD proportions in my sketches I will study loomis from now on and will try to fix this soon

    Thanks for all replies

Learning how to construct the basic forms before moving onto the forms of the anatomy is definitely a big help, but varying (like you're doing in the female study you just posted) is good.

Be sure to focus on trying to understand the various forms in the image and how they interact with the light, don't just copy the reference or you'll learn less.

Doin' good work so far, keep it up!

I will definetly try to keep variations. Its just more fun to sometimes just draw what you are in the mood for i think even if its not that good yet, it helps to improve and keep up the motivation

I see in the one that you're trying to come up with a final. The colors are really nice so far. However, notice that you are trying to "straighten" her out. Her back is much more angled, along with her torso (tummy area). If you fix that up you may be a bit more pleased with the outcome .

    Hey Adrienne!

Thanks for your comment and like always - looking at pictures with a little difference i see many many flaws in anatomie and colouring I will just keep practicing.

I think i will get me a real sketchbook to draw with pencils on my drives from and to work i have around 1 hour on the rail and plenty of models

Thanks for all the encouragement and comments in my thread

The figure is looking good so far it's great that you're testing out your knowledge so far! One thing that helps me think clearer when drawing the figure is finding where the weight is shifted in the body. Basically, you look for where the weight is put in the body and how it's positioned because of that.
In your image I can see a line running from her neck and straight down through the leg that's hidden by the leg she's bending in front - she's putting all her weight onto that leg so her body moves in accordance with that. It helped me think about how to approach drawing the figure and what the body does. Sorry if my explanation isn't of any help, I think Bridgman talks about it in his books or any good anatomy book should! It may not help you, but it's a suggestion!
