    Classmate's Sketchbook

Hey, my name is Alex Maximov and I'm from Czech Republic. Since my childhood I always wanted to draw and become a designer, but because of many reasons I couldn't. And now, when I've graduated from my University, I've realized that I want to make my dream come true and maybe one day I'll become a freelancer. Or even to go to design school...You know, it's never too late for your dreams I have big passion for environment design and vehicle design as well. Mostly all my work are done with traditional mediums as a gel pen, fine point permanent markers and copic markers. I want to learn work with them as much as possible before I'll switch to digital. I hope I can get here some useful critiques and comments, so feel free to post some.

hello alex,I like how clean your presentation is,also it is nice to see you apply correct perspective to your drawings(although that train looks a bit too flat).
it depeneds with what goal you went in making these sketching(maybe they are just perspective exercises) but they do seem a little bit generic design wise, while you are probably doing this aleready i would reccomend
increasing your visual library by finding reference that you like and seeing what design elements you could incorporate to your work, also reading books really helps generate ideas, try making loose sketches of ideas you think are interesting and then polishing them up.
(this reply was to your first post-i see that you updated with some more interesting stuff so take my comment with a grain of salt)
    keep it up.
be the change you want to see! help me improve by leaving a comment and Ill help you.

Nice perspective work! Also, really pretty thumbnails!

I'd say just keep at it. Maybe try experimenting a bit more with dramatic lighting?

really nice thumbs, sort of abstract eye candy.

have you considered trying gouache?a lot of industrial designers used to use it in the old days,i am considering trying it myself, would be cool to see what you can do with it.

Yeah I will try gouache later, but not now. I want to get close to a watercolor now and especially improve my perspective drawing. After that I will try out a gouache and other traditional mediums

Fantastic work. You have insane potential. I don't have any advice to provide, other than what someone else already said about maybe playing with contrast more ... more dramatic light/shadow.

How long have you been drawing environments and cars like these? I take it your comment about these being your "first sketches ever," in your first post, just meant these are the first sketches you've posted here, not that these are literally the first architectural things you've ever drawn.

Wonderful stuff. Reminds me a lot of the sci-fi concept artist of the 80's. I also am kinda fond of the grayscale look. It allows a lot of room for imagining your own color pallet.

@Diamandis: Thank you..yeah you are right guys. More lighting and shadows are missing here definitely. Next sketches I will try to play with it.
I've strated to draw from March 2012. Then Unfortunately I moved to Bahrain for two months for an internship so I had to stop for a while. But since August I'm back home I'm pushing the pedal to the metal
And yeah..my first post's sketches are my first sketches I've ever drawn.

anyways this is all around great landscapes! you could make the depth of the planes stronger by improving your values but that comes with time and practice and you seem to be doing that just fine! cant wait for mroe man!

Thanks! Actually my biggest inspiration is an American sci-fi writer Philip K. Dick. I'm really his big fan.
Yeah exactly, I think the same way. Color is for me in designing last thing. I just let this work to my brain and imagination.

Hey, thank you! I really appreciate it. Well, I just bought Scott Robertson's DVD about perspective and drawing vehicles and then I've practiced as much as possible. Every day I'm training freehand lines, arcs, ellipses etc...that has helped me a lot!

Line work by fine point permanent marker. It's almost freehand sketching. I have a few mistakes there...especially I've totally screwed up upper arc
