What we got here is, another sketchbook

I'd like to post my sketchbook stuff here. Hopefully we'll find all kinds of different stuff in this thread, maybe even something interesting for later use. Start off with some faces, simple enough, this is the old HB on recycled paper with some photoshop on top.

Some loose sketching and quick color added later. I've got lots of pages like this, just random scribbles basically that sometimes feel like coming together long enough to make a face or a tree.

It turns out I draw lots of sketchbook pages of faces. It's fun to color very quickly.

The texture of the recycled paper is phenomenal. And mixed with your awesome pencil work it just comes to life! Haha awesome stuff fersteger2!

Some micron pen sketch and photoshop color. I'm enjoying coloring quickly and sticking to one multiply layer, one overlay layer and one normal layer to paint on. The restrictions make me focus on what I'm trying to accomplish on more, so I think I'm learning some good techniques. I think.

Keep on sketching jackson. Super quick and simple coloring, it's cool to try and make a blue BG look like something other than sky.

I feel like I just stepped into a puddle of paint. Like I just stumbled upon the prelude to a blitzkrieg of awesomeness.

    Carry on.

I really like ur colors and lightning. It's nice to see how less strokes it takes u to make it look convincing.

    Thanks everyone!!

Lakai- I always try to do less brushwork, I really like Jaime Jones and artists who get across so much info with such seemingly simple strokes. I like sketching much more than finishing images ha.

    Awesome work!
I feel the same way, prefer to sketch and get the idea out rather than spend days rendering something.

I like just painting to this level, just indicate what's there but I always feel rendering beyond this, I just lose what I'm trying to do rather than make it better. Trying to figure it all out still. Spent longer on these but still calling it a sketch.

I really think I'd like watercolors, I prefer to get the impression quickly and move on and it's nice when it works out.

Sweet style! I would love to follow this sketchbook into the future. I especially like the one post #5. The black lower part of the background is so bold and it works perfectly in contrast to the skies as a treetop of a jungle or whatever it is. Great vision.
About struggling to take your sketches over to illustrations, I have had a lot of problems with that too myself. I think it's all about killing your darlings and all that. Even though the linework looks amazing on its own, oftentimes it's necessary to abandon it completley under layers of colors instead of letting it blend through.

Thanks! I'm not an animator, I've done Flash animation but do hope to get involved with it in one form another, right now I'm doing illustrations for mobile games, character portraits and illustrations, I'll post some finished work stuff once the games come out.

Thanks axelga! I'm always trying to go simpler and make a statement before worrying about rendering an refining details. So sketching like this is really helping me out!

pretty cool update. Its ok that u rather imply things, it hasnt to be rendered like crazy. Did u planned to do some full-body character designs? Really would like to see some .

Thanks! This is just another sketch page and the drawing for my CHOW for this week. You should check them out and vote if you haven't -

Lakai - I'll have some full figures coming, I think I do mostly observational sketching or cartoony stuff in my sketchbooks, tend to not draw complete characters beyond sketches like these. Hmmm, something to work on.

lionheartGFX - Thanks! I went to art school 10 years ago and most of my skills are from practice and like your sig says I've always kept my mouth shut and just sketched away.

Random question: I saw this yesterday:

Why'd you write "bad study no good" on there? Looks awesome.
