Concept: The protector of the rainforest (no name)

This one of a kind creature is known in legends as the living statue - the ultimate sloth; it is told to live hundreds upon hundreds of years, and to move so slowly that vegetation would grow on and around his body. He is truly one with the forest, the single, now-passed, witness claims he exercises a magical aura around him restoring the biome's balance around him, giving him the "protector" or "guardian" nickname.

Recent science theorizes it is the last of its species, a species who shows a remarkable life expectancy. It is also theorized a certain pollen or insect is drawn to its scent in a symbiotic relationship; explaining the perception of it being a magical creature. Many searches and expeditions have been done to find it; hoping to unravel some of the mysteries on old age and cell regeneration - none have been successful. There is a large debate whether or not this creature is still alive today, most think it has passed since its sighting in 1849. But we know better.

    Concept- Rainforest Guardian

The rainforest guardian is a magical creature who normally lives in a state of dormancy, sometimes for hundreds of years. But as the world's rainforests are destroyed, depleted, and exploited he once again awakens to protect them. He is also home to numerous creatures- lizards, frogs, birds, mice, terrestrial crabs, snakes, and countless insects. His cracks and crevices are infinite and make a safe haven for all manner of wild life. He uses the power of his eyes to instill compassion in would be offenders. His eyes glow light blue and when gazed upon will make a grown man fall to his knees.

The chant was louder now, and the thickness of the forest was dense. So much that he couldn't see a meter infront. Then suddenly it stopped. He heard a sound, like that of undergrowth snapping. He quickly headed in that direction, but saw nothing. He was about to halt his search, when the chant began again. Again that which sang stopped, and evaded him. They kept on playing this odd hide and seek for about an hour.
A stronger howl this time, he cautiously headed towards it, and thats when he saw it, a blue shape through the density. It was standing, powerful, on the fragile earth. The man looked in it's glassy eyes, and saw himself reflected, gawking back at it. He then knew it's desire to remain unseen, it's will to remain invisible had been broken. It's shyness invaded. It had a look of urgency in it's eyes, and that's when he knew he had to leave. When the blue mass headed back into the thickness of the forest, he turned his back and left.

    Concept: Hartekhadu, Hartelope ancestor
Hartekhadu appears only when the animals of the forest needs him. This ancient ancestor of the Hartelope, that are so rarely seen in these forests in recent years, seems to be making more appearances as poachers encroach on the Hartelope territories.

Hey folks, sorry the poll took so long. It's up now.

    No cuts this week.

    Close to Rejection:

Daniel Hurd - Reason - As I mentioned in the WIPs thread, this is getting very close to the too humanoid range. I will be lenient this time, but in the future I will eliminate any of your entries I feel stray too close to humanoid territory.

My pick for this round is scorge. While there are a lot of great designs and ancient-looking creatures, his is the only one that I felt addressed the protector element of the rainforest properly, by directly depicting interactions with the logging industry, which is by far the worst threat to the rainforest I can think of.
