Hello everyone! I'm trying to keep myself studiously striving within my art practices, so a sketchbook here seemed to be a good motivator, and provides the chance for some critique on my overall process, rather than an individual piece here and there. For background, I'm a twenty year old male who recently became serious about improving at art. My overall goal is to create surrealist graphic novels, as far as I know, a largely unexplored area (save for Une Semaine de Bonte). If you know of any surreal comics or graphic novels (or literature, or movies, or rather unknown surrealists), I'd love to hear about them.
Up until the past couple months, my focus had been on doing edited automatic drawings. Within the past couple months, I have been working on figure drawing and portraits. The portraits below are drawn first with my glasses off (I have rather poor vision), and then again with my glasses on. Sorry about the poor photo quality, I only have my cellphone camera. They have been edited in photoshop as follows: desaturate, auto-tone, and in some cases a duplicated layer on multiply.
Any comments, critique, suggestions, or ideas for study are greatly appreciated!
