    droarings

Well new sketchbook time... my last one was well over a year old. I feel the same way about these digital sketchbooks as I do real ones.
By the time I finish them I have improved and don't want to look at all my old mistakes anymore. So I buy a new fresh one with tons of empty pages.

    update

well here is some stuff from the past month sorry about the sizes on some of them...guess that's what happends when you don't post very often...ummmso the two asian girls in brush pen are from some George pratt photos on one of his pages so props to him for those...a lot of the pics are from pixel lovely's gesture drawing site so the photographers are Marcus Ranum www.ranum.com, Hong Ly, Lee and a few alla prima's of master studies I do these because that is what Carolus Duran had Sargeant do actually...than some quick sketching too...

I like the loose ink and watercolor in the first sheet of the SB! Especially then one on the left because of the dynamic pose and the way you've lifted interesting parts with orange. The big, confident brushstrokes in studies like this one and this one also look great, I just wish there was more detail somewhere in them to form a contrast. I wish you spent more time in each sketch in general, adding detail to points of interest, like you've done in some of the heads, but more.

This sketch has a really nice basic composition and colors and could make a good portfolio piece. The other thigh and upper arms look too long and head touching the top border looks distracting but I really like the face and wings!

Smuli Thanks dude, Yeah I reposted that one because it didn't fit that new Square icon size lol,. Those are very good observations, your right I should
spend at least an hour one them, and figure out an area to spend most of my time on to make them look more finished than they are. Maybe I will work on that sketch some more, thanks for encouraging me too, Cheers!
o.k. so an Marcus Ranum photo study www.ranum.com and a dan tular photo study, some hand studies of some of my favorite comic book artists, some light and form studies, and a couple wips for an illustration I am working on...

you have some ambitious scenes going on in here! There's a lot of potential in them and in your value-work especially. Keep working, and stick to your unique approach and style.

hey great enviro stuff they look really fresh and fluid in your style. Watch your edges, that still life you are doing has too many soft edges, try some careful hard lines, I think it will really bring your stuff together keep up the good work!

    studies

Hey Joe! I get the point ...yeah did some perspective thumbnails this week...still not as good at perspective as you haha...ideally we both have both
skills right?! . if you want to be more painterly though you should get some books on painting....lots of books available. Alla Prima is great if you can get your hands on it. ummmm craig mullins actually has a pdf of how sargeant worked on his misc section of his site goodbrush....Cheers man!

Jaik Thank you ...about the edges I assume you mean the one with the shell? yeah the edge thing is intentional...the main reason I do still lives is because the edges are better than photos. I focus my eyes in a point of interest in the piece and based on if that point is in shadow or light will affect what I see while resting my eyes in the point of interest. So the softer edges moving away from the shell is what I was actually seeing. Check out Vermeer....or rembrandt. This is why a lot of guys wont study photographs, Leyendecker, Mullins, Jason manley etc...Thanks for stopping by
    Cheers!

well just mostly studies this week. the photo ref for the horses where from Larissa Allen and Leslie Thiel. the portraits are random google images .I did a stupid amount of pen sketches that I am not really into posting since they are all so raw...and lots of experimenting with photoshop....lots of crash and burn....*sigh*

    New stuff

well just sketching and studies really,...Marcus ranum reference for the girls and the animals are leslie thiel and larissa allen. This environment is just some experimenting with
custom shapes and filters...I sorta like how atmospheric it is....and the sketches are mixed media charcoal using baby wipes for some wet on dry effects and pen and ink, also some mechanical pencils as well. also some mixed media from some older pieces and thought I would post a piece I did last january I wasn't happy with but now I like...go figure.
