I am in the progress of looking through Loomis' books, but I am really unpatient so it takes a looong time. I start off drawing a bit with care, then I get frustrated and just woogle allover the page... this smiley is disgusting by the way :barfing:

I might update with some sketches every now and then, don't expect anything good. I just thought I'd start this to perhaps give me a nudge to draw some more!

Here are some;

A few things I've learnt so far:

1) It gets really boring to draw something over and over just to get better at it

2) You need to do it even if it's boring :p

3) It's quite good practise to get your hand used to drawing to do somewhat detailed life sketches.Attachment 207817

Most of the stuff that has any good look to it is drawn from some reference. Though I must say I learnt the way lips look now... Kinda only takes a little dip in the middle to make them look somewhat realistic.

As you can see, Loomis is not very fun, but helpful surely :ep:

I have some more sketches which I will try to scan later. Been working through some of Loomis book. Here's something though; fun with the photoshop line tool

Maybe 10 minutes. I like the lips!

If someone recognizes it, then send me a challenge (you will know what I mean).

Should I make smaller images?

More from Loomis... you can draw the bones / muscles and remember the names and all, but to actually remember exactly how they looked is hard. It's good to draw them a few times though. You can teach the brain, but you need to teach the hand too.

Also, if someone has read the Loomis book, can you tell me what is up with one of the muscle references. There's a pointer for Pectoralis Major, but it seems to be UNDER the other muscles. In another picture it seems to be over the others. Is there some muscle that goes over Pectoralis Major?

I'm thinking I need to draw some nudes or something as well... and definately work on shading. Anyone know of how to shade good? Split it up in a few different tones right?

I'm thinking I can spend a lot more time drawing as well. Some people here are real sources of inspiration. Sometimes it feels like you're not learning anything, but I think at those times, I will try to keep drawing anyhow.

I think I draw them too large too... should make smaller ones. It's hard to get an overview of them. I only really saw them good now when I shrunk them on the computer.

Maybe you're tired of looking at Loomis stuff, so I added a comic + a small life of a wrapped candy.

I didn't shade the comic because I don't know how to do it with an ink (or tousche?) pencil. It's just a sketch anyhow :p

Some new stuff. I have been drawing some more anatomy. I will probably have to go over it quite a few times before it sinks in. I also practised some shading.

I shaded them (the back view and the arm) carefully with two different pencils. It really makes a difference to have a darker pencil to make shadows more vivid. No smudging by the way...

I had a real problem drawing the general shapes before, and I hope I have gotten better. I tried sketching / blocking the shapes out first, and I think it helped to make a more accurate representation of what I wanted to draw. It's kind of hard to tell though, because muscles look quite good no matter how you draw them.

Back muscles are limited in number but the shoulder part need a ton of considering before you know how it works.

Without reference & with the mouse, why does the left side look like crap?

Admittedly I spent some time on it but I couldn't get it to look good. Anyhow I conceed most things I make now suck cause I'm a noob

Colored version. Reference image. I only have a mouse so it's hard to vary the brush size, but I like coloring it's fun

+ playing around with some photoshop stuff. Critique? How do you color stuff more easily? I am using the sampler + regular brush + some blur, sharpen, smudge etc.

More stuff. Drawing individual muscles probably don't quite correspond to a believable human form. Although it will enhance your understanding and probably limit mistakes and make you more confident + make it easier to draw people. Third one and the last one is 5 min max sketches, I think they actually turned out better than the ones I spent a lot of time on. Now when I look at them they correspond quite well to the reference.

Will take a lot of time before the lines start showing any kind of consistency.

**edit** also guy in the clouds, no reference, actual size... think the BW turned out better than the colored sketch. Obviously I avoided drawing hands or feet

Also anatomy is probably off. I like the pale colors though, especially the color of light blue and violet + orangeish. Very beautiful. Last one is playing with some dodge, burn, blur, smudge, etc... probably some sort of photoshop sin by using those functions, but still

Some photos got a Kodak easyshare C613 this christmas, not very good but I think it's fun, never had a digital camera before

some of them has been manipulated a bit in photoshop.
