likelihood of getting a concept art job

I really enjoy drawing, and i want to enter into the concept art industry(by going back to basics). But I'm not sure how likely it will be that I could get a job or even make a living with all those awesome artists out there to compete against. I really need some insight from people already in the business.

Just as damn hard as everything else.

Post your work and it'll be easier to judge how hard or easy a time you'll have.

I have. It's in with all the other sketchbook posts. I'm not sure how to get the link to appear everytime I post though.

    The Sketchbook in question: http://conceptart.org/forums/showthr...ook&highlight=

At your current level, you won't.

Just keep working those studies until you can compete against those artists. Its the same thing they did. If you want to land
your dream job, you're going to have to put in the dedication to match.

Thanks. But I'm not asking if I'm ready now. I know I'm far from it. Just wondering how hard it is to get a job when you get up there and what makes a great concept artist(obviously someone who knows what they're doing but other than that).

What people are saying is that asking is counterproductive. Yes It's incredibly competitive and you'll have to work harder than you ever have before to get better. After I had a children's book published people came out of the woodwork asking "can I do it", "how competitive is it". If you try to figure the odds you'll get depressed. But I always ended every doom and gloom diatribe with "someone has to do it".

That's the truth. To do anything worthwhile, fun, and productive; it's just as hard as anything else. How easy is it to have a pathetic, easy, monotonous job? Harder, I say.

Not impossible, improbable. Most people on here handing out advice about supporting yourself as a concept artist, don't actually have jobs doing it full time,(including me), so there is your first clue. The rest of us get to be concept artists every once in a while.
Art is hard, you can maybe support yourself as an artist, and if you are really driven you can support yourself and a family as an artist. but most people claiming to be working artists are not self sufficient; meaning their art couldn't support their lifestyle on its own. They have spouses or family with "pathetic, easy, monotonous, jobs" as (jetpack42's description) or some other non-art or art related income to make it work. Deciding you only want a concept art job and making it such a narrow focus ups the chances of it not happening by a couple of orders of magnitude. Better to focus on making a living as an artist if thats what you really want and let that take you where you have opportunities for success.

Helen Chen and Ryan Lang have sketchbooks on CA.org. They graduated from college last year, I think, and 'The Art of Wreck It Ralph' is very full of art done by those two. I'd like to believe they are self sufficient.

After 12 years of trying, I took a break. I came up to Toronto, got a job driving around the GTA installing office furniture, and if I do eventually land a studio gig I'll probably take a pay cut by going from the furniture gig to an art job. There's a sense of nobility that goes along with 'fighting the good fight' in the name of struggling for years towards an art job, I know, but not-struggling is pretty cool too.
