Spartan Camp #249 - 50 gestures + Optional "Texture Drawing Study"

Spartan Camp #249 - 50 gestures + Optional "Texture Drawing Study"

The aim is to produce 50 gestures by Sunday the 30th of December.

    - The gestures can be of anything, human, animal, cavorting capybaras.... You can draw full figures, but you can also go for heads, arms, eyes, or anything specific. All media can be used, both digital or traditional. Coloured or black/white. Quick scribbles or long studies. Imagination or referenced. Clothed or nude. Specifics are up to you!

    - In addition to this, participants can choose to do an Optional "Texture Drawing Study", in any medium.
Additional notes on this weeks’ Optional Study:

    Background
This week, the optional focuses simply and specifically on rendering various textures.

    The exercise
Choose a few different materials and attempt to draw their texture accurately. You can draw whole objects or do small sketches/thumbnails. Reference is obviously advised. You could simply pick a few actual objects and draw them. You could also draw the same object (say, a ball or cube) as if made from various materials (using reference).
Important things to consider are the surface and the material. The material can vary a lot in terms of reflectability (like dull wood or reflective metal). But the actual surface (smooth, rugged, ... ) also matters. Check the links below!

    Reference
General art tutorial - This guide by Prometheus|ANJ covers a lot of different topics. Take a look at the "materials" section especially. Recommended!
Link - Nice example for this optional study, using thumbnails
Link 1, Link 2 - Texture libraries. First is photographic, second is 3d.
Link - Has a little advise.
Link - Mostly on clothing and fabric. Has some links down the bottom.

Colour, medium, time frame, any specifics are up to you! Good luck and have fun! And feel free to ask questions!

50 poses is a challenge, but don't hurry or stress yourself reaching it! Focus on drawing, as practising is the main goal of this exercise.

Criticizing each other is highly encouraged!! Share constructive criticism, reference images and resources!! Let's help each other get better!

Come on soldiers! Flex those muscles!!

    Happy Holidays Everyone!

Tried to paint the textures as well to see how they reflect light or whatnot.

Did a couple of texture attempts.
The purple thing is a organza material, couldn't seem to match the colours and it totally threw me off.
    The second is coloured foil.

2 hour skin/portrait study from a Korean Drama. I tried to add pores and small blemishes but they ended up looking like dirt so I canned them.

Here are mine. Didn't have time to do the optional tho.
Btw, can we post these sketches to our sketchbook thread or is it exclusive to the spartan camp?

    Very nice posts guys.
Jesus Masochist I'm sure you can post them in your sketchbook thread. These Spartans are to help us develop our skills so the more feedback you can get on them the better.

    Klaustrophil I loooove those hands.
