    Narholt sketchbook

    Hello!
This is my first post here and I decided to start my own sketchbook tread as I'd really appreciate any feedback. As a little introduction I'd like to say I paint digitally for 3 years and this year I'm applying for Game Art Design course on De Montfort University.

I wish everyone Happy Holiday and hope for some comments about my work. I've attached my best recent paintings and studies. I hope I'll be able to keep this thread up to date and upload something once in a while

yay new sketchbook! welcome to the sketchbook club .

neat stuff so far, I think you'll have a good portfolio for college.
Do you have any figure or creatures studies, those would be fun to see.

    Happy sketching!

    Thanks for your welcoming Rhubix!

Sadly I have no creature and pose studies, I'm rather focused on landscapes. However, I have to complete my sketchbook for a univeristy application so I suppose some of them are going to come. I'll try to keep this sketchbook updated.

Here's something for you (I tried to post it yesterday but after editing a post it disappeard, wut). I know it's kinda late but I hope you had great time yesterday and that the rest of Christmas is going to be Merry too!

I forgot to mention that I run a livestream. Here you can watch me painting image I attached below. There is no commentary, I have no mic: Present archived stream

More studies and sketches are going to go I guess : ) It wasn't livestreamed, I painted it on and off.

Thank you Papu! Sadly recently I've no time to do more of them. Just sketching around whenever I can.

    Thanks rottjers!

Hey GrayPersona! I'm working hard right now (I hope I'll get to DMU) to at least not start from the scratch with easiest bases. Drawing relying on intuition works till some stage, I think there where I am now intuition becomes not enough.

Some more stuff. My very first digital still life drew yesterday, around 1hr. Didn't want to go too much into details.

Models life study I did on my drawing classes. Each took 3hrs on A2 format. Maybe the newer one is better technically but I think first one is better overall. If I didn't have to start drawing it once again after 1hr and would have enough time to finish it up I think it would be awesome study

PS. Sorry for this stuff, it was rolled and I had to "pin" it somehow to take a photo.

It’s good to see that you’re looking at numerous subjects. It may be helpful to practice crosshatching with the pencil more which should help with your pencil still life’s etc. Good luck with getting into the course I’ll keep an eye on your sketchbook.

Thank you SophieW! I'll get to know more about that "crosshatching" tommorow as I have no idea what it is. And today it's already too late for me to understand no matter how simple thing ; )

Hand studies I did today. Bridgeman's "Constructive Anatomy" is great! Enjoyed studying it.

Lovely environments! Your digital work seems to be pretty far ahead from your traditional stuff; keep up the life studies as I think you will find that developing your traditional skills will help your digital ability much more than your digital endeavors will help the traditional. In post #12, you have a great value study at the end; you can do the same thing in graphite!

Great studies, specially the hands, and I agree with The Pariano, I´d love to see a bit more of your traditional work. Please, keep posting !

    Azsha: Thanks.
The Pariano: Thank you! I agree, my digital artworks are waaaay ahead from traditional because I simply didn't do traditional at all. I see your point, I'm doing traditional just to improve my digital skills and because not everywhere I can take my laptop and tablet. Sometimes scribbling in sketchbook is the only solution (e.g. very boring lesson ). Life studies are something I'm not going to give up because I can clearly see how I improved in a short time.
I'm not sure if I understood what you stated in your last sentence about that still life in post #12. You mean that I can do the same using traditional means (graphite in this case?). I think it's possible but it requires skill in traditional means which, I'm afraid, I don't have : >
ChisLu: Thanks! I definitely post more of my traditional artworks but I may have less of them because I don't have any old stuff now. I just have to create them! What's more I'd like to strike a balance between digital and traditional painting/drawing. But no worries, I use only pens on my drawing classes so some amount of traditional work will be always made

I forgot to say that these recent hand studies (on grey background) are painted digitally using a tablet. Here are 3 new hands (only 3, I didn't have that much time to draw today : <).

    Hey! I'm still alive

Some hands and arms studies I did during the week. I think I've enough of them for a several days, at least it won't be main thing to draw. As first ones were fun to draw the last two studies was just pain. I think I'll draw something just for me not a study, just to feel better. Tommorow I'll upload my big canvas still life study I did on my drawing lessons yesterday. Today it's too late and I prefer natural light to take photos.

Loving the anatomy studies. Charcoal would probably be good, if you were looking to do the same thing traditionally.

Friday's drawing classes. 3hrs. I'm not satisfied with it but tutors said it's good and I should spend next 3hrs and it would be very good study with interesting composition. Well, I didn't do that due to lack of a time.

Very cool painting, man. Did you start with greyscale and then move to color or use color first?

    Hey MrFrenik!
I never start with greyscale, I never really tried this approach. Starting with a colour I feel more in control, however it's harder to get correct values.

Drawing classes from yesterday. There was a model and she changed her pose three times. First one is failure plus we had around 40 minutes for it. 2nd was about 1 hour 15 minutes and the last one around 50 minutes.

Drew it today. Practising anatomy (female mostly) On the paper it looks way better than scanned. Smoother shading etc. I can do nothing about it.
