    In Progress...

This is a piece I'm currently working on. This is the first layer of paint. I intentionally keep it dark so I can build up lighter as I go. My current concern is what I'm going to do with the sky. There's a bit of empty space there with which I don't know what to do yet. Anyway, I probably have at least another four hours or so. Let me know what you think, guys.

The pitcher! It is not there!
I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).

Yeah, I had to do a ninja edit. Should be there now.

Oh, I like the character! I'm not at all bothered by the empty sky. I look forward to seeing this a little further along.

Make sure in each painting you always have your whites and your blacks. Definitely too dark, use the levels to get a proper value scale.

So far the character looks nice, I'll be interested to see how you do the far background.

the darkness doesn't matter as much as the complete lack of contrast; the value range is too narrow to have a center of interest.

It's part of my process to keep contrast and value low in the beginning as I figure it out. It's very easy to bump it later if I need to. It's much harder to go the other way if you need to. I actually intentionally keep the painting between 50% and 80% grey. The next step after I have everything laid out to where I want it is to go further in detail with more contrast range. Then color and final touches, which may involve bumping the lights a little further.

Second round. Added a little more contrast and clarity to the foreground. It needs a little bit more, but my next step is to go into the background and render that more fully.

I'm surprised no one mentioned it yet. The perspective on the towers is reversed. They are all splayed outwards somehow, rather than heading toward a vanishing point.

It also seems like the light hitting the towers is more from the front than the light hitting the rabbit-person. And depending on where it's standing relative to the close tower, there might be a cast shadow, and a whole lot of reflected light.

I did notice the wall on the right being off, and I fixed it after I posted this, you're right on the towers though.

Trying to finish this one up. Not in love with it. I feel like the holidays screwed me up, since I was kind of putting in 20 minutes here and 20 minutes there, as opposed to focusing on it for an extended period of time. I pretty much just need to add the final details and move on with my life, haha.

Also, while we're at it, I removed one of the towers because it was causing too many tangents. Still not 100% about that choice…
