    Sweat and Disappointment

Well, obviously I am new here, I have been hanging out over at ImagineFX but I am kind of new to digital art so I thought someplace with a bit more traffic might actually assist with my learning. I will post my first finished, and kept digital art piece I did for a challenge over there. I would appreciate critiques. I am not trying to break into the business, I want to make art for the sake of art, I have a job and needed a hobby.

This is one I did awhile back where I had ever intention of finishing it and my wife did not want me to. She liked it this way.

Started a Frazetta Master Study tonight. I have a long way to go but I am learning a ton of stuff. This is my first Master Study so we will see what happens.

I would recommend getting copies of books by George Bridgeman, Andrew Loomis and Burne Hogarth (you can find digital copies floating on the webs)...I've learnt a lot just by reading through them (more then I've learnt in my school) and working on foundations. Anatomy, colour, tones, compostion etc...its really exhilarating once you start to really learn and push your skills everyday..

    Keep it up!

Cool start. I like the poses, have you tried the 30 second gestures at posemaniacs.com? they are good exercises (I think I will start them again as I've been v. lazy) I look forward to seeing the masterstudy, may I suggest you use solid brushes at first, not opaque ones, to try and build up a clean form / mass. That way you can get crisp edges and solid shapes with less effort and then if you need to change things it's not as much time wasted. Goodluck and have a great 2013 \o/

I have actually started doing the 30 second poses a lot more and you are right they are much more helpful and seem to be giving me a bit more confidence in my figure. I will try the solid brushes for sure, as the master study seemed to have gotten much harder with the opaque soft brushes. Thanks for the input, this is great stuff that you cannot pick up from online tutorials and the like.
