Red face Flour Sack Animation Practice (updated 1/3/2013)

    Hello!

I'm ReggieFran, and I'm an animator. I just graduated from an animation program, but I'm always looking for ways to improve myself. This is my first post in the animation section!

I always wanted to do a flour sack animation, but I never had the time to do it while I was in school, so I gave it a go. When I first did this I just wanted to experiment with squash and stretch, timing and weight with a little jump motion, but later on I added the little movement before the jump while playing around with it. I wanted to try out a new movement.

    What do you guys think?

Good job, I think your ease-in, ease-out, and anticipation needs a little work, perhaps more frames as he winds up in the first twist and less frames between his second winding motion into the jump to make him seem to explode more off the ground would make the motion seem more fluid. Right now it appears to be a series of 3 movements, 2 twisting motions then one jumping motion.

I can't feel the jump. It needs anticipation.

What is it doing before the jump? I'm not sure.

Thanks guys! I'll add more anticipation before the jump and work on putting more ease in/out on the beginning motion.

    Thanks again!

I've always found it easier to work with this guy if I give him more form. It's easier to keep the volumes consistent and you can just clean it out on your clean up drawings.
I love this little guy- he's so fun to draw

So I've read the critiques and decided to work more on my flour sack. For now I'm going to focus more on the jump since I want to work on my timing and anticipation for a little bit. Here's what I have now:

This has already been really helpful for me, so please tell me what you think.

    Thanks again!
