ded-- I really like your idea. Ok, here is what I've got. Poor thing is too slimy and fragile to come out when it's dry, but this fella can do some mean stuff with lighting.

Hey folks, a reminder that you have an extra week to get these dragons done! Go enjoy some time with your loved ones, without worrying about impending thundercloud of dragons.

I'm gonna give this one a shot - the concept is just too cool to pass up!
Deathnite - that thing has an impressive sense of power! I liked the the way you did the head in your initial sketch, have you considered turning it so its facing us? That way we can see the split, whereas right now it looks like a standard dragon head.
Sushy - Nice colors, your design makes me think of a lightning version of Dragonite
ded - Man... I don't even know what to say. This is a totally original idea, and I like how the body looks like it flaps around on those posts like a Chinese Dragon puppet.
Here's my WIP - it's a frail wyrm that doesn't even have the ability to fly until the air is heavily ionized. The energy it picks up through the lightning rods running through its' wings is used to make it levitate. Since it often appears before the lightning is visible in a country with very little rain, it is considered a good omen.

Hope everyone's had a good Christmas!
Got a dragon book from my parents for x-mas! Includes some sick works by artists such as John Howe, Kerem Beyit, Todd Lockwood, Chuck Wadey, amoung many others....really cool stuff, def gives me some motivation for this topic...
so here's my dragon, I notice a lot of people seem to forget the 'breathe weapon' aspect so I tried to find an effective way to demonstrate how the dragon uses the storm for it's power and how it uses it's power...lightning seemed to be the best 'power' source when it comes to storms so of course I had to give my dragon some kind of a lightning rod, still in it's rough stages so there's a lot that I'm not too happy with atm, but changes will be made as the piece progresses!

I think this one's pretty close to finished. I'm gonna step away for a bit and see if anything pops out when I come back to it. Drawing lightning. is. FUN!

I have to admit I do like the idea of this comp. Thought I'd give it some sketches at least.
Tried making mine look more like an eastern dragon than the traditional Western Wyrms. Basing it mostly on Newts, Axolotls and Eels. (Even horses in a couple)
How wha ... how did I miss this D:
Gonna try this one was trying to come up with something original yet understandable. I really like your design Ded, but if you wanted to add more color to your piece maybe you could have the metal rods get red hot just an idea but I really like it don't get me wrong.![]()
Man so many cool designs here! Excited to see everyones final!
Here's what I've got so far, a couple sketches : (. Dono if I'm going to be able to finish this, I' thinking i'll work from the bottom sketch on the first image.

So here is a more finished version of the composition I started with, but after awhile I realized it just didn't convey the design well so I redid it and I'm gonna post in final and good luck to everyone. Jeez I should have thought more about the design would've made a better final product, next time.

I like the start of it Seth, because the angle is very dramatic. It reminds me of the way you only get a slight glimpse of the Cloverfield monster when its towering overhead. But the problem is that angle doesn't let us see much of the design. The silhouette is cool though, so I'm interested to see what you come up with in the end.
