    Exclamation SeeMonster's Sketchbook

So i Have been a lurker here for a long time, but i have recently decided to brave the waters and be social.
I am at a crossroads in my life, I am a student at NMSU( new mexico state) , I am also an instructor for DACC (Dana Ana Community College) but I am first and foremost a husband and father of two. So basically what i am trying to say is that there is not a whole lot of "me time" right now.

I have been drawing my whole life, however i have had a rocky relationship with digital painting, It seems i love her more than she loves me. None the less i am still slaying that beast.

I am attempting to liberate myself from line. It has been a valuable tool, and a good friend but it is time to move outwards and master value and color theory. and it is in that hope that i am posting here, the talent pool is amazing to say the least and i will never improve i i don't put myself out there

This image is typical of my style up to this point. Lines and flat colors. little understanding of light or color theory.

I have been doing little exercises on my own when i can steal a few min, they are helping, but i feel that it is not enough.

So what i would like to get from this experience is a little perspective. I want to eradicate my preconceived notions about visual communication and take my art to the next level.
so please be honest I dont have a fragile ego and i will take and suggestions very seriously.

    Thanks, More to Come

    SM

    hi See monster

nice start - i like your style!
i'm not a pro but maybe i can help you a little bit
you have a good fundament with your drawings - right know you must go out of your comfort zone.
paint things from life or picture and observe how the colors changes in the shadow or light.
the key is exercise and experience. these studies are extremly important!

be brave and experiment with the colors and most important have fun

i did a little over painting hope its a little help
    just my 2 cent

Interesting, It already has more depth.

Thank you for taking the time to do a paint over.
I think you are correct i do need to step out of my comfort zone.
school is on Christmas break right now so i am going to use the free time to experiment. Plus next semester i am only taking two classes so i should be able to put a little more time into my art then as well.
    Thanks

I love drawing characters, I go for all kids of eras, dress, personalities. A lot of times I will start with characters then stories naturally expand form them.

I like what you've got so far -- I'm a sucker for cartoons, particularly characters.
    Good idea with this bit:

Staying one step ahead of your comfort zone is the only way to keep improving! Draw the thing you hate the most (for me it's cars and mechanical things- ick) It'll help you grow

    Happy sketching!
