    Samszym should draw more.

Hey all! I'm a 19 year old art student at TAD and my goal is to work in TV animation.

I've been hanging out here on CA for a few years, but I decided it's time to get active on the forums again.

Love the figures and the pokemon. Nice skeleton studies too, are these for school or did you decide to do these studies on your own? Regardless they look sweet.
I swear one day I'll be good. I swear one day I will be proud of my work. When that day comes, I'll need to kick my ass and try harder.

    Thanks for the comments everyone!
The figure drawings are nupastel! They were the required medium in my figure drawing class and I've learned a lot from using them, though I'm not a big fan of them personally, I find it too hard to make specific marks. Anyway, I'm going to be going to the TAD workshop starting on the seventh and we'll be using them a lot, I'll definitely have some more to post!

The skeleton studies were for school, but I intend to keep doing those kinds of studies, turning the body into blocks is such a fantastic way to define the form

Ah, guess I should explain all the pokemon, I've been taking part in a challenge on tumblr called the pokemonathon where you draw each one in order, it's been a lot of fun! I intend to go through the second generation. And I gotta do more personal work too so the pokemon don't fill up my gallery XD

Sorry there aren't many drawings, I've been playing too much fire emblem. Gotta draw more!

Sick stuff. I like your quick figure sketches in the first post. Very expressive and beautiful. Nice texture/perspective/everything on those fuzzy cartoony blobs.

The environments in that first post are cute too. Very Final Fantasy VII/VIII. It's possible you're too young to know what I'm talking about, hah.

    Back in town!

Sorry for the month of absence sketchbook.

I'm back from the workshop! It was a lot of fun and a lot of learning. The main thing I worked on was a storyboard from an episode of the Powerpuff girls, I managed to get the whole thing done in under two weeks and only watched the actual episode when I was finished. It was really bizarre seeing the same story told with different drawings! Storyboarding's a lot of fun. I got some good cinematography books from amazon to study, so expect to see more of that kind of work.
Other than the personal projects we worked on (we could pick anything, other students were working on illustrations or paintings) we did a whole lot of life drawing. Other than that there was a lot of socializing and going out to eat awesome food. Overall a great experience! I hope I'm able to make it to the next one.
"but Sam" you say, "the workshop ended about a week ago! Whatever has kept you from posting until now?" A fair question, with a not so pleasant answer. Laziness and tactical role playing games. This morning I clocked in 24 hours in Disgaea, and I've only owned the game about 5 days XD In my defense this is the last week before school starts up so I wanted to use it to veg out and relax. But enough of all that, I'm going to try to limit my gaming time to about 2 hours a day so i can get more work done.
School starts on the 4th, I'll be posting a lot of homework from my classes, along with storyboard and cinematography studies and too much fanart. It's going to be an awesome year!

with almost no further ado, here's most of the work I've done this February!

Really like those masterstudy value thumbnails. For the boxes you drew, is that for practicing drawing 3D boxes and you just draw whatever you have in mind? Looks like it could be very helpful...

Dang I went awol again XD sorry, hard to remember to update with so much going on.

Ya, the boxes were just perspective practice. I was trying to draw them confidently without ever going back over a line, it's hard!

K, here's all the stuff I''ve been doing. There would be way more if it wasn't for Fire Emblem :| I really shouldn't be allowed ot play tactical rpgs.

So...as you can see I'm doing some MLP fanart. I'm going to be going to an MLP convention, cloudsdale congress, if by chance you're going there too stop by my table (13)!

It's my first convention ever, I'm really excited!

ah I see. They all look very correct though...so couldn't really tell it'd be hard to do! lol good job!!
Nice job on the MLP redesigns- Looks great. And those portrait studies... just wow. SO nice. The only comment I could give is perhaps you could add the darker accent on the lady's portrait? The reference on the left seem to have darker darkest darks. (If that makes any sense lol I mean like the eyebrows, hair below her eyes..etc)
Great update here!! Love that egghead too. XD

Okay, here's some stuff. One of these is a comp study for an illustration I've been putting off for a loong time. Mostly because I've been busy. But now that I have time for it I really have no excuse not to do it, and I'm finding myself somehow scared to get into it. I realize how stupid this is, but I guess I'm scared it won't be as good as I want it to be. Of course, if I'm scared of something like that I'll never improve, so I just have to force myself to start getting things done! There's no room for laziness or fear if I want to be a professional!
