    The Portfolio of Flavio Bolla

    Hello everyone

It has been a while since I have been active here on concept art.org, and that is what I want to change for the coming year Until this point, I have created art mostly for myself as a hobby combined with a bit of commission work. From next year on, my goal is to find a step out of being a hobby-artist, becoming more of a professional artist. I would love to hear some crits or feedback, or on which points I have to work on for that step. I apolgize in advance for making mistakes in my writing, english is not my native language.

My work is very enviorment-heavy, in which I feel most comfortable. I am also trying to practice a lot of anatomy and portrait-painting.

I feel most comfortable with paintig enviornments. And I am practicing painting portraits and antomy as much as I can, having still some difficulties with it. Here is some of my work:

Well, you are doing beautiful works man! I don't have so much time right now but the first thing i've noticed is that you are using the same camera for every picture.

Hitsu: Thanks a lot for your feedback. You´re right about the camera! I am trying to be a little bit more courageous about it for my next pictures.
Abdul: Thank you very much! All the best to you too!
    Icedearth: Thank you

Here an other one with a slightly different camera:

Haha yeah you think this is a different camera but the horizon line is the same, so your camera is pointing in the same height and direction actually so the camera is the same. You know what would have been cool? (maybe you can change it with the warp) This paint is cool because it's like you are in there watching the scene, but you treated the thing like if you see the picture as a big canvas... the problem is if you are in there when you look up the perspective of what you're watching changes and becomes less angular because your horizon line goes at the same height of your eyes. What i want to say is that the only way you could have a perspective like this is by a camera lens that's taking a big shot from far enough (oh and anyway, that rainbow... that's a master touch man, wow, really... wow )

Oh yeah something else i can tell you is to focus your details where you want the viewer attention to be, right now you have a lot of small details all around but because you are trying to achieve a photo level of detail on your pictures you end up having the subject with the same details of the background (almost in every work). That's so distracting because if the you have a lod of 6 in your picture (i'm just simplifying the reasoning) and the subject is 7 then it's not eyecatching, there's not so much difference, but if you have a lod of 6 and your subject is a 9 then you start saying wow that's awesome. But bare in mind that the more small details there are the more the eye can't see them, our eyes are made to catch the big shapes and the movements first, the world around us is full of small details, we are trained to not care about them unless we stop and focus on something. What you want to do is to stop your viewers attention with big shapes or movements and then when they are focused on your subject they will start noticing about details.

I hope i've made that clear : \ i can be a little confusing sometime...

Anyway you have taken a class at CGMW? I was thinking about it, i feel like i have to learn something more about colors and techniques. Can you give me a feedback about them?
