I love the simpicity of evening grass. The grassfire shots are impressive, the light foreground has a bit of an artificial feel to me though - but maybe that's the point. Love the thunderstorms and the drowning trees, too - and Athens is always awesome - the sky looks much clearer as it usually is in smoggy Athens

Do you have some tips to achieve similar results of your lightning shots? Do you leave the shutter open all the way until you see the lightning? Thanks!

Sure - Stop down your aperture till you need around a 10 second shutter speed to get a good exposure (during the day or evening), at night I generally go for a 15 second exposure. I use a programmable remote and just let it fire off till it captures something. If you don't have a camera with that capability you need to just keep hitting the shutter till you get a flash. The key to a good photo is ensuring that you set up both the composition and the focus correctly and use a remote so you don't bump the camera. Don't be surprised if you end up taking a couple of hundred photos before you get a keeper. It's all about patience.

I've done a little urban stuff but usually approach it from a more saturated and bright perspective. I'm attempting to push myself out a little more as urban photography has been one of those subject matters that I've found pretty dull. I often find myself wandering around a city looking at things thinking "that might be interesting as a photo" but always having it in the back of my mind that I'll get home, biff it into LR, and realise that it's boring because it's 'just another building' or 'just another wall'.

I thought I'd have a go at it though - I don't think that I've done terribly well from a composition point of view and I also had to contend with only having a 50mm on my camera. Feel free to fire away on the critique.

Ironically it was a pretty dull day with very diffuse light so I've not tried to colour it up in any way hence the muted saturation and black and white treatments.
