A shader built for my Materials 2 final. "Slug Skin" made using misss_fastskin shader and ansitropic node, then applied to a simple model to show off the bump and spec. Mostly a texture show rather than the model itself.

Good start! Building good shaders is complicated, but a lot of the shader functionality comes from good textures as well, not just the shader functions (unless you are going for a flat look of course). I feel that the shader is bumping too much though. I believe slugs have a rather slick texture to them, and much more shiny. Since you're using mental ray, it might also be a good idea to give a little more time for lighting set-up and such as well, as it feels as if you're using linear lights. Might be a good idea to try some quadratic lights and maybe some photons, and see if you can bring out more of the shader's qualities.
