Uploaded images appear in higher contrast & darker. Any help?

Just tried to upload some sketches, some with quite dark colors. When I uploaded them here, they seemed to be darker and in higher contrast than the original ones. It bugs me because these drawings are studies of lightning and colors. Is this a common problem or is it just me? Uploading the drawings to other sites doesn't make them different, just this site.

What format are the files you are uploading? Make sure they are saved in jpeg as I think different file types can cause minor differences in colour/contrast etc.

If you are adjusting them in Photoshop after scanning make sure that the colour mode is set to RGB Color. To do this go to the toolbar at the top then Image>Mode>RGB Color. - I say it is probably this because I once had it set to Greyscale for some pencil work, and after I uploaded the sketches they actually were darker.
