    Ivancho's Sketchbook

Hello , My name is Ivan from Bulgaria and i've been drawing seriously for like 4-5 months(since june 2012). My current goal is to learn the proportions of the human body and get better at perspective. I am visiting art classes 2 times a week. Usually i draw up to 25 sheets of paper per week, but sometimes i am really bussy and i can come up with only 10-15.

I am really sorry for the quality of these first pictures but i had no time to scan them so i quickly photographed them.

Good stuff! I'd have to agree that you should work on more male figures. Also work on trying to make your lines more solid and not so sketchy be confident with the line you're going to put down. but great work keep up with the studies.

If you don't mind could you check out my sketchbook and tell me where i should start and work on

Great stuff here, nice studies! I see you're avoiding hands and feet, try focusing on them next time you're doing studies.

@BoxOfSecrets Thanks ! I will follow your advice and i will post studies on hands and feet soon.

I am so confused. I get my post posted twice each time i submit it. Dunno why. And then sometimes when i try to delete one of the posts the attachments from the second one disappear. So strange. Name: Iron man 2.jpg

Great stuff so far! Lots of work in so little time, keep at it and you'll improve real fast.
I'd try and avoid the messy crosshatching you have as it really diminishes the quality of some of the drawings, maybe you can map the shadows and fill them in with the side of your pencil. Also think of the plane changes and of the form turning away.
For the ones from life, take your time and start very light, you should be barely able to see your marks. Then go over it again, fix what there is to fix and go more in depth. Start big (big shapes, long distances) and progressively go smaller.
    My journey

“I’ve just neverbeen good at drawing _____, so I never draw ______.” This is a circular logic offailure that a person will never escape. If you wish you were better at drawing _______, draw it!
If you aren’t very good at _______, and avoid it, you’ll never getbetter at drawing _______! This attitude is setting yourself up for a lifetime of nevergetting good and enjoying _____.

Lookin good! I liked your little insect studies, and some of your head studies look great. Keep drawing - don't ever stop!

Also - your pencil work is really maturing. Well done

@TomSeas Thank you very much, i followed your advice for keeping the first lines light and i am now ashamed of the fact that i haven't been doing this till now. I think this will improve the quality of my works/studies.
@Crisimikiwiki Thanks man, i don't plan on stopping any time soon lol.

Hey thanks for stopping by my sketchbook!! Really good progress in yours. Just keep pushing out alot of drawing and your line work will continue to become great! I also like that you are applying contour lines to your figures and anatomy stuff

I love seeing the perspective/construction studies. Those are definitely what you should be learning as you're starting out with all of this stuff. Take it a step back though. Drawing complex forms, such as humans, spaceships, robots, etc. can be a little too much to do when you don't have solid line work and understanding of simple geometric construction using perspective. I suggest boxes, perspective grids and straight lines. Seriously. Fill up a whole freaking sketch book full of these 3 things. And make your straight lines absolutely as straight as you can without using any straight edges. Or, better yet, draw 1 line with a ruler and then spend your night sketching trying to get your freehand straight lines as straight as the 1 you've drawn with the ruler. Getting absolutely confident with drawing these things accurately and efficiently will bump your drawing skills up 1000%, I guarantee you that. Keep up the good work and I look forward to coming back and checking out your updates!

@Joe777k7 Thank you very much dude. Seeing what you've accomplished i have complete trust in your words.
@MrFrenik Thank you. I've already done that before i joined CA and i made sure to upload 2 of my basic geometry studies that i've done couple of months ago. I have like 15 more studies on basic geometry but it's really old stuff . The geometry studies are made on 50x30cm canvas size. The rest work is from the last week on A4 pieces of papper excluding the still life which is also done at 50x30cm

Yes! What Joe said. I crave more! I'm really liking the study two posts ago of the cast?
Have you tried setting an amount of time that you are going to work on something before starting? such as:
"I'll spend 5 hours on this study and no less!" I find that helps in forcing myself to not give up or get lazy (sometimes!)

    anyhoo.. keep it up!!!!!!

I am really sorry for the crappy quality of these pictures but i chose a bad moment to shoot them. I promise that i wont make that mistake again and i will use my scanner despite the fact it takes me more time to scan and upload.
That is work that i've done from the last week .. or 2 weeks ago ? i dont know really.

@Joe Thanks dude, i haven't stopped drawing at all it's just that i've been too lazy to upload my work, because it takes me so much time to do it, precious time that i can spend drawing ... or just sleeping. I promise that in couple of days i will upload more stuff executed with more skill !
@Jarrad Thank you very much ! I think you're talking about animal study that i did from the Bammes animal anatomy book. And i think i haven't done such stuff as setting goals. To be honest i've never had problems with being lazy, well i am lazy but i play the audio version of the book The Perfect Bait or a Feng Zhu video and it makes me start drawing ! Otherwise i try not to set time goals because i think it will distract me from the main process which is studying an object. I try to play it naturally, so to speak..

AGAIN i am really really really sorry for the quality : /
