    Non-exclusive reproduction rights?

I just got contacted by a publishing studio that they wanted "non-exclusive reproduction rights" for one painting I made that they said could illustrate one of their concepts. It sounds real fun, but I am wondering a bit what "non-exclusive reproduction rights" actually mean, and what could I demand from agreeing on this? Getting credit for it seems fair, but what money or so? And if so, what would be reasonable as an amount to ask for? I am not familiar with being contacted by people who would like to use my art, first time kind of hehe.

What do they want to use it for? Inquire as to their budget. How many reproductions? One time use or...? Things like that. When someone wants to buy reproduction rights for an existing piece out of your portfolio it is usually a bit cheaper, but that's ok, it's just free money in a sense. Non-exclusive reproduction rights typically means they are just buying a one-time usage and you are free to sell other reproduction rights as you see fit - in other words it isn't binding on you in any way. The only time it might be a hitch is down the road sometimes publishers, or contests have restrictions on previously published work.

Non exclusive means you can publish it elsewhere for different types of companies, usually after a waiting period depending on the company that buys the non exclusive right. Ask them what their budget is if you don't have a price.

I got the same message yesterday, wasn't sure what to tell them. Glad I came upon this thread.
