I really hope this lasts through the rest of the day tomorrow. I started my submission idea, but it won't be finished till tomorrow night because I'll be busy![]()

Blergh... I really need to learn my fundamentals
I think my posts keep getting deleted...
Here's my third attempt.
Name's Kirk.
Top one is adventurer/bounty hunter kinda guy.
Next one is the Big bad guy. Doesn't do much but count the booty his crew brings in.
I forgot to write the notes on the image itself. Excuse me for that.![]()
im so pro and maybe my drawing will not stand out but who cares its idea non the less
im 21 btw.. go me.. im an artist![]()
Sadly, i did not get time for collors. i hate not colloring over the line art. im bad at line art so sorry for the "wierdness" of the lines. anyway, this guy has like an arm mounted plasma canon thingy whis is conected to four tanks on his back contaning different chemical contents. A tube conected to his gun transfers the content. Hope im not to late, cus this is the only decent thing i have made so far. no more from me now.

I'm posting this now, since I won't have time to finish it later today.
I apologize for the messiness and the bad proportions, I'm still really trying to improve those. I never got to do the face, but I pictured a sort of translucent face visible through the glass, maybe the glass is foggy or something. I could maybe see a bearded pirate through the glass.
Anyway, this is my first design lab, and I hope that I can do a lot better on the upcoming ones.
hi therefirst sumission in design lab
I hadnt time to do more stuff at home, so I'll post my pencil sketches at least. if its still open tomorrow, I may post more
about the skull thing,
I thing a skull mask beneath the bubble, would serve as a second protection and oxygen, if the glass broke or something

kkadz, I really like that middle one. I think the body should be a little longer but that's just my opinion.
First time joining in on a design lab, and of course it's sci-fi themed, which I never ever draw, haha. So no robotic stuff for me. (basically I was thinking Star Wars, which is..not..all that futuristic when it comes to character designs..)

The big one isn't vacuuming trash, it's supposed to be a pile of treasures.
Wait...I just realized that there is no air in space....oh well.

Thanks for all of the entries.
I just had the thought that I might go on stream in an hour or so and stream while I go back through all of the entries (which there are a lot of!) and try to pick 10 voting options for the part 2 video.
If you miss it, it will probably save the stream video for a few days at the stream page. www.justin.tv/sinix777

Oh, and to make things more localized, here was an entry posted on the facebook page by Vincent Biwer:

A bit late, but it's always nice to see the art anyway!
Part 2 is up now, thanks for all the fun submissions: http://youtu.be/Gvya3z3ec3Q
didn't post much, but I kept up with peoples submissions as they uploaded them. Lots of cool stuff!
Heres some advice that'll hopefully help those who are participating in the future. It's mostly stuff I've picked up from various youtube videos (most notably: Feng Zhu) so please correct me if anything is off -- I'm still very much in the learning stage myself~
Presentaion
Sinix, as a designer himself, can see past lackluster artwork & presentation to the underlying ideas, but you can really hurt yourself by not spending any time on it. Especially when showing your ideas to busy or non-artistic people the idea with the slicker presentation will often be the one chosen. Some things you can do:
Don't over-do it with complexity. This has two facets:
Keep the initial design simple, clean and readable. Avoid loads of tiny detail (ie: wires, antennas, etc sticking out everywhere). Big shapes are generally better. Once the main ideas are hammered out you can go back and add a layer of detail.
And secondly: try and limit submissions to 3 (or maybe 5, at most) separate designs. You can do loads of thumbnails for yourself to get ideas flowing, but submitting too many just overwhelms whoever is looking at them and they'll probably just gloss over the whole thing. Try to take your best ideas and combine them into a few strong designs.
Don't use a pure white background - instead use white (or other light colors) to highlight important elements of you design - lights, shines, edge highlights etc. Related to this, make sure your picture has good contrast. High contrast draws the eye!
Ground your objects/characters with shadows under them. This puts them into a space, even without a background, that'll give your drawings more weight.
Rectangles behind characters, lines, clean hand-writing, and good page layout make your designs look way slicker without much work. Number each design so its easy to refer to.
oh and watch the size of images. Almost everyone posted giant ass images @_@. If your image is more then about ~1200 pixels wide shrink it down.
thank you so much, im now 50 % smarter. really, thank you for helping all the newfags.
11 pages, if this keeps up the admins will probably have to make a new activity area. *hint hint nudge nudge*
