Design Lab Episode 10 - Space Pirate [youtube activity]

Hello everyone.

This is the activity and participation thread for posting all art related to episode 10 of our Design Lab series.

The topic for this episode is Space Pirate, a character based topic. Don't be intimidated by artistic quality, the only thing that matters is the idea/concept.

I started looking at sci-fi spacesuits for inspiration, but I couldn't imagine how I could add that 17th/18th century vibe to any of those. Then I started researching various types of armor from that time period, and ended up with this:

Not quite what I was looking for, and the proportions are not great, but whatever. It looks kinda okay. Might try something entirely different later on, but for now I spent enough time on this.

Not very good at human characters, but that's one of the things I'm trying to improve on, so no better way to do that than jump right in. Here's my concepts, nothing too drastic or creative maybe, but giving this a shot none the less!

Mine is mostly organ stealers with scuba diving equipment. I'm not very inventive.

I definitely got too carried away with the gizmos and everything but heated chainsaws FTW!
My inspiration came from thinking about how a single person would be able to hijack a ship to claim it for themself. Lasers to cut accurately, chainsaws to cut deep through thick armor. I also felt this guy would be a hacker of sorts because he'll have to understand how to bypass security. The little robot is a self rotating buzz saw.

I just registered, so I hope I'm doing everything allright. First time partecipating too.
So, here's my take on the topic. I tried to take what screams "Astronaut" (space suit, helmet, oxiygen tanks) and combine that with the "Pirate" thing. Maybe it's too rendered out, actually...

Gave it a shot, came up with three designs based on various things, from the stereotypical pirate of old to the more newer incarnation of pirates in Africa.
