    Here's the thing (bumping this because it hasn't genereated much discussion) on improving work standards for illustrators...work standards already exist, illustration agencies exist, there is an organization already dedicated to advocating and developing illustrators (Society of Illustrators).

    As far as "let's all help ourselves" I think the best way to help yourself is to be good enough to be in demand, determine your own path and have the integrity to work for a decent wage.
