DSG 1658: Enviro • IMAGE OF FASCINATING PLANET SURFACE/ATMOSPHERE TAKEN FROM ORBIT

    .

[ Good satellite photos of planets reveal all sorts of interesting details, textures, and colors that can be breathtakingly beautiful and abstract. ]

[ Come up with a shot (or series of shots) giving us crisp glimpses of an alien world. ]

[ You don't need to show the entire planet, mind you... ]

    [ ...Just a portion. ]

^ 15 minutes, rushing before my compy shut itself down at midnight!

I take it this is more like the weekly sketch group these days? Not complaining - it's awesome regardless. I guess mostly I'm just stoked to compare my current work with old stuff from here and realise that I have actually improved!

    the star once said

"Son, at your young age you should be wary of moons because too many will heavily affect your gravity field but, one day, you'll find the One Moon big enough to accept your planetary rings and that true love is gonna last until kingdom comes (or i implode and swallow you all)"

    link to technique?
It's missleading to say its made with just a "technique", but for me it was a workflow that was new. I painted it mostly using big brushes, and brushes shaped as clouds/storms. Then I used layermasks to "paint out"
things and make the shapes more interesting and unique. I also used warp and distortion to make things fit nicely on the planet surface. Another thing I would do is duplicate layers with clouds, put them beneath and move them out of position and nudge their edges a bit with smudge and adjust the value (to something a bit darker), that creates a quick and accurate shadow. It would also be "warped" to fit with the direction of the light.

Anyways, here is the PSD file if you're interested.
