Student's Portfolio

[Jake Hatt]

Hi, may name is Jake Hatt and I am 17 years of age. I am currently still in education and dreamed of working in this here industry since before i can remember. I have been touching on digital art on and off for about a year now (I work traditionally a lot more) and have accumulated this portfolio.

I would really appreciate a critique for this, and be as brutally honest as you want I just want to know where i am in the way of progress

I can't really give you any protips or anything, just really my opinion. I really love the first two pieces! I believe they are the strongest in your portfolio and are epic amazing. But, I felt that the anatomy and value was a bit off for the hand and a few of the monster pieces. Overall, I think it's a great start and I wish I was this good at 17. >3< Maybe you could try to do more figure drawings and gesture drawings? I know that art schools really love to see that kind of stuff in portfolios. :o

1 year of practice in digital you say... uhm, can you tell me something about your technique? What kind of software do you use? What kind of tablet? How's you tools setting and how do you proceed for you paintings?

I will be able to help you a lot better if you can tell me those stuff

Photoshop, bamboo fun tablet, i have been experimenting with different brushes and i usuall just scribble down some quick sketch, fill in the basic values and detail from there

seems like you have problems with blending colors together, try to fix that with a smooth round brush with opacity setup on pressure, you'll find that in the transfer option under brush settings
