    school assignment shading

hey everybody, so our first paint assignment is to shade a robot. I've started this and continue on it today, I was just wondering is this heading the right way or not?

the line art is copyrighted to my teacher Nick Marien
the shading is done by me.

Where's the rest of the robot?
Also the lightsource looks really inconsistent.

It's getting better! I'm guessing the surface is made of metal, so you could smooth out the texture, especially at the legs. It looks a bit dull right now. You could tweak up the light/dark contrast as well (again, the legs). Brighten up those highlights! Lastly, I think the head could use some reflected lights.
I'm not an expert, but I hope this helps!

Exactly how many light sources do you have in that? Generally the closer something is to the lightsource, the brighter the light shines to it, but in your the lightest parts are in the middle of the torso and shoulder, yet the cast shadows say the light is coming from below, but the legs are more in shadow and the light coming from behind/above doesn't affect the shadow of the shoulder. If there's multiple lights as you've painted, then there should be multiple shadows created. Also nothing else seems to have a cast shadow, only the cog decorations in the shoulder, which again makes me question your lightsources.

so the overall light comes from left top a bit at the front, in the arms the cilinder is also a lightsource, the little clocks aswell but not that bright.
Ok I will put the contrast more at the legs and look at the head again.
Ok thanks tinybird i see what u mean, i'll look for the cast shadows and the main one on the ground to show my overall light since i forgot that one aswell. I'll be posting an update today.
    Thank you tiny and liliumus
