I'm torn between majoring in Entertainment 2D and Illustration, as I know others in this thread have said. Entertainment 2D has a lot of classes I'm not interested in as I don't plan to go into concept art, but I like how it seems to explore the business side more, and I really want to take some of the introductory design and storyboarding classes. I've confirmed that you can't take other major's classes as electives or part-time, even if you meet the course requirements. :/ So unless you're in 2D entertainment there's no way. The main thing that bothers me about Illustration is that your final semesters are just portfolio work...which, while inevitably good practice, seems to lack content. So I was wondering if any students who are in their Illustration semesters or who have graduated from the Illustration program could talk about what it's like? I realize with the right mentor, it could be an invaluable time to hone your skills. But that's really what you're paying 15k-20k for, a mentor.
I've been really impressed with the classes I've taken at TAD so far, but choosing a major is hard, especially when it's hard to find information.
EDIT: Actually, it seems like they've changed it for 2013. You CAN take other major's classes now, I think. I'm not sure what the details are but if that works out it's great news, and I hesitate less to go into Illustration.
Still interested in any info people have on what the Portfolio classes are like, though!
