so, Landscapes?

hi, my name is leonardo and i dont know if any of you have seen my sketchbook, but i pretty much been focusing my efforts in the figure, and well i really want to branch out, but i feel a bit insecure as of where to go when learning landscapes, ive been practicing 1, 2, and 3 poing perspective with geometrycal objects if anyone could share the approach of how you learned this or some pointers that would be great! thank you for your time

I learned basic perspective from Loomis books and Ernest Watson and others then I painted from life a lot. If you are talking about making up buildings and structures that is a different thing and you need to be well grounded in perspective.

@Dpaint i dont really have experience with color either, so i want to practice values first, would it still be good practice if i reference a painting and try to get the values in pencil?

If you want to do copy work and learn how to draw structures in the landscape get this book

Its cheap and it will teach you everything you need to know by the time you finish it.

Color is a separate matter and I recommend working from life and studying this book Color and Light by James Gurney

For landscape and general composition I highly recommend getting a copy of Jack Hamm's "Drawing Scenery". Very rich in good composition and scale principles - just sit down with it and a stack of paper and tackle one or two basic principles every evening (for the first 70 pages or so).

Also...the advantage of studying the landscape is it is right outside your door - get out in it and start drawing and painting! That is really the only way to get a handle on landscape.

I find that I like "Gruppe on Painting" also. But,the best experience is going outside and painting/drawing.
