looking for some work....

i sadly have to say strait off the bat that none of the work I'm about to post is mine! I'm posting on behalf of a friend of mine i used to work with, he's a bit of a technophobe so I'm trying to do him a favour, his contract has recently run out and he's looking for work so I'm posting some pictures up of his stuff, if you think you know of some one who could use a very good sculptor please pm me and i will pass on details









the girls are about 85mm tall and odin is about 110mm (though pete can work to most scales) pete can work in most materials though generally uses sculpy firm, pete also does his own castings and is an incredibly good painter so your pretty much getting the whole package. shifflett brothers if you know of any one that could use a good sculptor it would be good to hear from you, i will be posting these pics up on your forum when i get a chance as well.
i think its a crying shame that people of pets caliber are finding it hard to find work so what do you guys think

Yep it's a shame but it's the reality for a lot of sculptors no matter how talented!

Is Pete UK based? If so then he would be perfect for a company that I worked for about 5 years ago in Hertfordshire:

They do all the same stuff as above........in fact I may be wasting his time as he may have done these figures for them!! Apologies if this is the case!
There's also another company that a friend of mine told me about that might be worth checking out:

I've never worked for them but it looks like a cool place.......though a lot of their sculpting seems to be digital. Which is the case at a lot of companies now. The company I did most of my sculpting work for last year now does 99% of that work digitally. They mostly download a digital model from the internet & either print it out or have the cnc machine do it all......they're also trying to do away with the need for moulding & casting!!

It's not the end of the world though, there are still plenty of places that use sculptors & artworkers.....it's just that the jobs are quite sparse & there's seemingly MILLIONS of sculptors out there. A lot of the time it's down to luck, who you know & being in the right place at the right time. It sucks!!

lol thanks for getting back to me, yes he's based in the uk! i did work for banjo and i wouldn't send him there i also worked for design works in windsor they are a great company and most of there stuff is actually done by hand though to be honest i don't think they need any one else other than there 3 or 4 main sculptors, i will probably pass on his info to them or get him to contact them as they do seem to be pretty buisey at the moment, as for games workshop pete and i sculpted the space marine that you based your figure on so he has worked for them before though I'm not sure if he would like to sculpt that scale full time also he would have to move there. i will also tell him about the knowledge (i think i have a copy of it some were ) but with the exception of banjo all very good suggestions. thanks again

ok so its pretty clear he's a pretty good sculptor of super heroes , i will try and get some different types of work off him. he has been doing these for a few years now.

i thought the same thing when i saw the hawk eye figure but these are all the resins from the sculpy i think there just tinted resin rather than painted... like i said pete is very good at what he does

man that really is good work. I can try to put a word in for him at mcfarlane...unfortunately we have switched over to mostly digital. I'm the last wax sculptor they employ full time. And ironically I spent all of last week using zbrush and maya. pretty frustrating

I think a lot has been said here already on where he could find possible work but I do have one suggestion:

In this day and age, being a technophobe really limits your possibilities It might be time for your friend to get familiar with a computer, and the internet! Just don't let him get to facebook and all those other awful time-wasting places

If he's interested, please get Pete to contact Forge World, part of Games Workshop, who are looking to recruit new sculptors.

thanks didsydoodle, we have done some stuff for forge world in the past (the space marine figure they brought out some time ago was one of petes ... i did some of the embellishments on it) i will certainly remind him about forge world. thanks.
