Question What should I do next?

For almost two years, I have been practicing drawing every day. I started out reading Loomis books, anatomy books, and drawing from life. I just recently began doing gesture drawings everyday. A regular practice session involves me drawing from life, copying cartoon drawings of artist that I admire, working on art projects, and learning human anatomy. I really want to know else I can do to improve as an artist. I need to drastically improve so I can get a job at the end of college. I am studying to be a computer animator.

When you get to level 13 on the forums (the levels under your username)
you get access to the exclusive tutorial section. All the answers are there, regarding how to
land a job, how to become a concept artist, the secret to awesome drawing...etc. It's all
in one thread. That's probably got the answers you are looking for.

colortheory, I immediately recognized your username and remembered all the other threads you started asking virtually the same thing ("WHAT DO I DO?"). You should be taking the advice given to you in all your previous threads, not making new ones expecting people to spend their time answering your same questions again. If you spent half as much time drawing as you do apparently contemplating it, I think you'd find you don't need to keep asking these questions. Try a little exploration and dedication for yourself, for heaven's sake.

Star Eater, you are a wicked, cruel man.
I was once on the receiving end of a critique so savagely nasty, I marched straight out of class to the office and changed my major (sketchbook).

animate? I don't understand what you are trying to say. Get better? Work harder? Look at the companies and studios you'd like to be hired by, and find what they have available? try and specialize your portfolios to their needs?

You know, if you're going to be snippy I'm going to start closing your posts because you've been given advice over and over.

    You need to help yourself.

If you constantly don't know what to do next then go pay for a teacher.
Seriously, how do you expect to get a job if you stumble this much?

You think workplaces hire for this level of incompetence?

Well I can't really say since you don't really update your sketchbook with all these projects, gestures, anatomy studies and everything else your saying you do but....

    Time =/= Effort.
Some people you can see massive improvement in a year because they draw a lot and really put effort in others SB's however they improve barely because they aren't really really giving it a go studying and practicing. If you haven't been getting the results you want your probably not doing as much as you think you are. I know people who sit and literally study, do drawings with specific purposes for at least 3 hours a day. Not even including recreational. To improve it takes pure effort and observation.

I've read three books so far. The Preston Blar animation book, a book called tradigital, and the animation survival kit.

    There are two extremes:

The person who posts and expects critique on EVERYTHING, demanding why they aren't getting better after one drawing.

The other side is someone who never posts ANYTHING.

Look, there is a lot to be said for putting in a lot of pencil mileage - but without posting/showing work to others with more skill and experience, you have absolutely no way of knowing if you are making the same mistakes over, and over, and over again. So the lesson is show your goddamn work.

That being said, know who your audience is. While this forum may be great for composition, drawing, etc, it may not be the best for dealing with animation specific topics such as spacing and timing. You really should check out the 11 second club.
