Gerezon that's rippin' haha!
Here's my take on the scientist. When I read about the assignment I immediately pictured Stephen Hawking ready to save the world! So that became my starting point - the Scientist near wholly paralyzed by the infection stuck in a high tech (S. Hawking/Prof. X) wheelchair with only his finger allowing him communication with the outside world. He is the last of the scientists from his lab - the rest of his colleagues have already succumbed to the infliction. Namely, the alien spore cannot be contained in any way because of it's nature - it reacts to anything and everything! In fact the infection is really a parasitic superorganism that interacts with matter on a molecular level. It "eats" every known material until it runs out of energy - hence it's love of biological organisms! During it's space travel inside/with the meteor it had become almost dormant, but upon quickening on Earth had discovered a feast.
More about the scientist. My idea is that the affliction, like any good parasite, keeps the organism alive as long as possible. So even though the mutations are transforming the human body beyond anything possibly recognizable as really human - it keeps the organs functioning until... well, until they stop one at a time, thus making the whole process unbearable for any biological host.
If not stopped from spreading the alien organism would eventually deplete the whole planet to it's core with the Sun acting as it's energy source. So - go scientist! You can do it!
(This should be a game where you (the player) as a sick scientist trying to simulate a cure or antivirus that would kill the infection before it kills you. When you succeed computers take over and actually produce the cure and release it to the atmosphere and saving the world! Even if the scientist's own infection's too far gone.)

Nice work guys.
Sillirien - might wanna be careful with the placement of your dude's desk. Atm the nearest part of it to us just misses his feet, and it looks a little awkward. It just kinda looks like you positioned it so it perfectly misses him, and you might end up with an odd tangent when you render out the feet. I'd either make a more obvious overlap on his feet, or push them apart a bit, so there's no confusion.. Hope that makes sense, I'm shattered, so my writing isn't at its best
.
Bit more work on mine.
Just reread the brief and saw the guideline "Must still be able to perform scientific tasks". I think he probably can, just as soon as he gets that damned tie off.

Here is my piece so far. I'm wondering if the perspective is a bit off. Hard to tell now that I've spent so much time on it.

Yikes! didn't realize the deadline was so close. Gonna have to paint fast., You guys are killing it.
Gerezon, yours is especially entertaining.
I've come up with a couple of ideas.
I'm pretty sure it's going to be the one on the right.![]()

Looking good MasterTroglodyte. I say keep the 2 legs normal. The half alien face and hand is enough for me. Try not to over render away from the focus point of your illustration.
Wanted to break out of the lab coat idea a little and put him in some kind of scifi hazmat suit - err just a sci fi suit I guess. Doubt I'll make the finish line on this though.

My progress so far, I get rid of the doctor coat so it might seem less of a doctor, but I think the environment he is in helps a little.
I think the influence of Akira is clear in my sketches.
Here's mine, going for the blobby infection type...
more progress soon.
I'm making mess here: Sketchbook.

Lol this is turning out to be a great round, so many diverse entries.
vatteh: I don't see any glaring perspective issues at first glance. The transition from the initial sketch to this is huge! Really sells the idea. I like how you handled that gooey strand he's extracting.
scorge: I love the linework, I'm hoping you'll keep at least some of it intact for the final... Can't wait to see a colored version.
MasterTroglodyte: I think it's coming along pretty well, personally, although you might shift the composition a little. I wish I could see the entire character, it gets kind of confusing near the feet, especially since there's a vat obscuring part of the leg...tentacle. I can't quite tell how it's supposed to be connected. Something about that facial expression is hilarious though lol.
Pierce.: Really like the central suit with the medical cross insignia. Hope you find some time to make the finals.
Artka: Still one of my favorites so far. Although yeah, without the lab coat it is somewhat more difficult to identify him as a scientist/doctor even in the setting. Maybe instead of getting rid of the coat entirely he's got like some shredded bits of it left on him. Just tossing out ideas.
Had fun continuing these, was trying to work between a glaringly obvious infection and one that's more subtle. Advice appreciated.![]()
vatteh: The seat/stool looks oddly placed, he doesn't appear to be on top of it, perhaps review that and you should be fine. Coming along nicely.
Here is mine, I got a late start, and the humidity here presently is very demoralising so I may not finish. So many great entries though, and it's nice to see this place so alive again - a testament to the knew mods, well done.
Additionally, I hadn't attached an image since the new upgrades, and I have to say, the new interface is far superior!
Just added some colour before bed....
