    Leo's Sketchbook

    Hi,
These are some pretty old drawings of mine (the last 10 pictures or so are recent if you want to skip the bullshit),
I dont draw a lot, actually I only draw when I'm on vacation and sitting by the pool or during summer break
    when i'm really bored.
But I always liked drawing so it's strange I don't draw that much, mostely because I had a lot of homework in highschool and didn't have a lot of time, now i'm studying Digital Arts and Entertainment which gives me the oppertunity to draw a lot more.
So I'm trying to draw more often, that's why I made this thread.

My drawings are pretty shitty and I'm kind of embarrassed posting them between all these other awesome sketchbooks, but I want to make some progress so I could really use your feedback and maybe some tips 'n tricks !!!!

Hey dont be embarrassed by your work, we all start somewhere, keep practicing and you'll be proud of the improvement you see, I hope you keep it up. Take a look at some Loomis books if you haven't already, its a good place to start. Nice work with your anatomy study by the way http://www.placidchaos.com/AM/index..../andrew_loomis

I've got some old litle book from the 60's called Pencil Drawing for fun, actually quite helpful.

Everybody tells me my perspective isn't correct but I don't really see it which makes me crazy.
I used a waypoint so what's still wrong?

    Hello Elias,

For the perspective, have a look at the leg, standing on the ground. Don't use the leg that is raised to find the horizon line. Don't forget to post the name of the person who drew the line-art.
Very cool that you're already working on your anatomy. Try to break things up when studying. For studying the muscles, concentrate on on part first and go the next one after that. Do life drawings to study the different proportions.
Loomis is very good to start with.

    Good luck and have fun!

    Hello Elias,

Don't rely on lines in your shading. I.e; the skyholes in the trees and shadow parts of the second wagon.
The second wagon should also be placed higher.

    Keep doing them!

    Hello Elias,

    Nice going, some things;
-It seems that you color picked the colors from your reference. Try to see the hue, value and saturation and choose the color yourself
-For the reflection of the environment in the water, you can make a copy of the area above the water, flip it vertical and put a little blur on it. I.e. Filter->Blur->Gaussian Blur. Lower the oppacity of the layer. To have waves in the water, add a mask for erasing and paint in some lines in the water (search up some references for the waves).

    Good luck,
    Lino

Hello Elias and welcome to CA! Like other said, your improvement is really visible. Like you I started my sketchbook on this site a few weeks ago. 2 years without drawing seriously and I already begin to see results on my studies. Even I suggest the Loomis books, they're helping me a lot, and "Bridgmans Complete Guide To Drawing From Life" for better anatomy, togheter with "Michael Hampton- Figure Drawing - Design and Invention" that explain really good the human parts.
For the rest draw draw draw, to get better, and see from real life. To "see" better, Betty Edwards "Drawing on the right side of the brain", really helpful.
Keep up and you'll improve in no time.

    Hello!

I've noticed those figures as well as you working on anatomy, I assume it is to improve your figures? Well anyway! what I suggest is to work on form rather than anatomy. Try reading The Vilppu Drawing Manual and do as many gestures as you can at least and hour a day. That way you train your brain to see form better as well as to achieve a looser line quality and to have a lot of energy in your poses.
