    Gabriel's Sketchbook

    Greetings!
I'm a beginner artist aiming to become a professional illustrator one day. I know the road is tough, but i'm stubborn. This forum for me has been something really amazing and inspirational and fun and awesome and amazing. Seeing the work of amazing professionals and hardworking beginners really helps drive me forward.
So, i decided to begin my sketchbook thread so i can get used to showing my art to people, and hopefully get some useful critique. What follows is some random and irregular sketches and studies i've made recently. I plan to keep studying intensively, so expect more from me. I hope you find it entertaining!

Some sketches. I drew those really small on the same page, so they're really low res. Trying my hand at composition, but i don't know if i'm too happy with those. Feeling like i'm not going far enough, or something like that.

I was looking at how concept artists use silhouettes to quickly sketch all them cool robots and aliens and such. I tried my hand at that and turns out it's a really fun proccess! Here's a page

Some more sketches. This time fighting with colors and blending modes. And a batman redesign, why not?

You got some pretty cool designs, but try to study more from life instead of photos.

Hey, everything looks nice so far. I don't know if your inconsistency between posts reflects how often you actually draw, but in case you aren't all ready: try drawing at least once per day. Get in the habit of drawing frequently. Thus, you will naturally get more done and perhaps improve faster.

I liked your studies a lot (I believe they were gestures) you should do a lot more of those! Work your butt off on the fundamentals and your compositions and characters will improve immensely. I suggest you look at some books by Andrew Loomis and George Bridgman in getting down a strong foundation and build from.

Thanks! I know of Loomis and Bridgman, they're epic. I need to get back to their books asap.
And oh, i'm drawing a lot lately. I just have a weird mental block against being consistent. I can't keep journals. I'll try harder

Coming back with stuff! Painted this today. The idea was to make a small ugly creature look menacing with the use of perspective. I think i could have done a better job of conveying the scale of things. The trees in the background and the little rodent are there to get the idea across, but maybe i should add grass or something else to reinforce it?

The creature is a dragon-tortoise. Not sure what they eat. Probably not rats, it doesn't look fast enough... hm
