Good stuff guys!
I've been trying to figure out something but haven't come up with anything I'd like so far. I've had few ideas but have not been able to execute them very well. I'm probably not going to continue this, doesn't really convey the depth and journey.

Second to my moutain ridge I wanted to do something more 2 dimensional...
O and Kvenh, your landscape is really great, has a lot of atmosphere and depth, like it alot!!
This topic is actually more difficult than it sounds. I found it hard to evoke the idea of embarking on a long journey in a way that's hopefully a little unexpected and creative.

Been doing some colouring experiments and thought it fit the topic well, so might as well post it here.

Some really nice looking pieces here. Attempted to add some leaves and contrast to it.

So here's a quick sketch, Long perilous journey through a valley full of lava and poisonous gas.
By the way Kvenh that is mind blowingly awesome.

@ Pixeltuner: I love your sketches man. I may have to steal this technique to get better ideas and compositions I wouldn't have thought of.

Some outstanding work....O.O.....
Here are some sketches, decided to go with an architectural scifi scene. Next reference for cities, buildings, vehicles, textures, lighting and atmosphere.

Level 6 Gladiator: Provocator
Great stuff in here. Very nice to see everybody's take on the theme
@Dayle
Nice sketches. I can see the scif you are heading fore.
@Bnoch
mind-blowing You always deliver super quality. So nice to see your brilliant technic.
@BenJackson
majestic scene. At this point I think you could focus on the hues and the color. It works very nice in some parts. I think you can do a lot of clean up in the lava flow. Why not have some kind of path trough the fire wall to give the guy in the corner a chance to get through the landscape.
@Different_Directions
I like the poetic feeling and the mod in the picture. I would put some color in the gray shadows. Perhaps define where the light source is located a bit more. The tower has a long cast shadow on the right side while the mountain in the background seem to have its shadow side to the left. And the cliffs in the foreground seem to be lighted directly from above. Overall I like the pice it start the imagination.
@Pixeltuner
Great I like all your your contributions. Don't know what to crit more than go in more details and cleaning.
@Bishpo Six
Very nice. I like the contrast between the orange and blue and the round form of the planet in contrast to the branch like path.
@ThomD
I think the style and colors works well.
@Kvenh
Very beautiful. Great focal point
@basti0n
Interesting landscape. At this point i think is't a bit bussy. I think you should have the color and tones to go more consistent to the blue tones in the background.
@kingkostas
I like the movement its drags the eye really nice to the light. Its almost impossible to look in the corners without sliding in to the center. I think you can render it out more and maybe add some vessel or figures to enhance the journey theme.
@jamsesson
Looking good. Nice mystic mood.
Been playing with some global-warming-rediscovery-of-the-world-theme but don't think I will have a journey beyond thumbnails.
Wip! Great stuff:Bnoch,Kvenh,thanks for inspiration!

These are some of my colour roughs and ideas still exploring this topic and I really like the theme of a long journey. I will definitely end up selecting one and finishing off the concept art painting.
Do people know if with the actual concept art submission are you allowed to add in photo texture into the piece of art is this allowed? The technique I am talking about is painting a whole piece but using a rock texture or photo scrap to add in texture and details ? If this aint possible its ok just want to know what the rules are with environments.
Okay, well, once again I've changed my concept... just a sketch this time, so I could get the idea out my head and onto the canvas. I still have this desire to evoke a sense of a "narrow" path set amidst a sea of sorts... clouds, water, etc. Basically, the path is torturous and difficult, and there's no easy way to get from start to finish. I was inspired by some cool and unique real-life geological formations like Giant's Causeway and Devil's Postpile National Monument... I think that the hexagonal sided pillars of rock really crate a sort of unique, otherworldly feel. I am trying my best to find time to work on this, and I intend to finish this challenge, even if it doesn't look perfect.
AnthonyChristou - I think the third wip is really impressive, great colours and sense of depth. I would've thought adding photo realistic textures is just part of the digital process, using custom brushes / textures etc. when watching Feng zhu design cinema he often drops in photographs for skys, backgrounds and textures, just be careful with source material and copyright issues.

one of the attempts that im probably not going to take further ... but here it is >>>
i think that was about an hour n a half ... but i dont think that the landscape is 'epic' enough after seeing what all has been done already on this thread !! some awesomeness is evident here , keep it up guys![]()
vibhas_virwani that is a cool landscape. But I think it could be more intresting in horisontal composition! Otherwise you could place some birds or cool clouds in the sky cause its a bit empty there and it splits the picture in half!! Cheers!
so this is my idea and my first sketch

My entry. I just liked the sounds of a vast desert journey:

"I must not fear. Fear is the mind-killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration. I will face my fear. I will permit it to pass over me and through me. And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path. Where the fear has gone there will be nothing. Only I will remain."
