Shan: It's looking pretty good, but rather flat the moment mostly because of the textured sky.
here's an update on my treething ^_^

Here are a few sketches / ideas. Great pieces so far.
a few 3 to 5 minute junk sketches I did I still thinking how to make this simple yet effective
I'm thinking of going with a idea I had of a explorer who had discovered a key that opened a door to another world with only his journal compass and his gigantic pet bird called icarus he set sails to a strange journey that awaits him
Wow, great work, everyone!
I've never done something like this before, but it'll give it a shot. First time for everything, eh?
Wow, I'm willing to bet that this is going to be a mind blowing couple of weeks. I mean, there's already some amazing stuff in here (looking at you Pixeltuner and Bnoch). I have got to at least give this a shot. Looking forward to seeing where everyone's journey takes them. Best of luck.
playing with some other thumbnails. I thought of trying to find a story by choosing a similiar setting and maybe color scheme for differrent images though at the end I will just finish one of course, lets see
pixeltuner - awesome image
looking good so far android411 can't wait to read the story to this
Great stuff pouring in sofar....see if I can contribute..
Thom: Good start, digging the angular shapes
Android: The bottom one is very cool. Really nice mood and atmosphere
Takashmen: Really liking the textures at play here. Image needs more depth but you'll get there![]()

wip
pixel thanks,
I'm not gonna continue it, was just a experiment,
have new idea, more related to the topic, which will be done in let's say proper way
nilfheim looks like you're getting too close to Tome Sholes, watch ya steps, I mean if you play it well the effects can be stunning
but on the other hand it can turn into copy
yea, now it's to close to him, I'll work on it,
posting initial thumbs (worked on it using great Pixeltuner method)
I selected nr 4 and 6 and merged them
Lots of good starts and some already impressive paintings here, here are some thoughts:
Nickybeats - Cropping out a bit of the gloomy sky could help the composition, horizon in the center looks a bit boring. I like the ground part and the look of the crack!
Bnoch - Wow, love the shapes of the mountain and the feel of light hitting it.
Pixeltuner - I like the colors and fantasy feel but I wish there was some visual depiction of the journey to travel.
Android411 - I prefer the first one because it fits the topic so well but I think it would look more natural if the road continued up the hill, right now the hill looks inaccessible to the rider. Maybe you could try changing the orientation of the gate so that the path would go through it and up the hill? Nice colors and surreal feel!
Here's my first try. I spent a lot of time on it but it doesn't have the feel of a long journey so I started doing new thumbnails.

..ditched the distant view and added some snow etc...but same problem as smuli..the long journey thing is missing..
here`s an update. I worked on both images. Thanks to smuli and pixeltuner for the tip.
smuli- great colors and mood, maybe it helps to extend the background to get feel of long journey
thom d - very nice image, maybe add a figure
some up here, still wip

a update on the journey sketch
story:
and suddenly I saw a door appeared from out of the heavens
a warm light radiating out of the dimensional gate. Without fear
I steered my bird Icarus to the door in the sky ready to venture
into the unknown world to record and experience the unknown and
perilous journey ahead
Thanks for the feedback dudeI'll work on it
and lovin' your piece! It has a sanctuary type feel but still with an air of evil about it <

nice work. think the path could be defined abit more. people walking along the path would be a nice touch. more shadowing and lighting. i love the perspective, definitely capture that feeling of distance.
I'll work on the perspective a little more or are you talking about someone elses work?
awesome entries everyone! keep up :D
my journey begins here
