Looking for critique! Forest and plains enviros.

Originaly, these were color studies done for my CGMA class. I decided to push them a little further.

The forest is sort of finished for now. I'm currently working on the plains card.

Any comments/critique/paint overs would be very appreciated.

You're in Montreal? Probably forest near you somewhere, right? And plains? Even just big fields work too. Get out there and see them.

You should also look at how other artists (and I mean traditional painters) handle similar environments.

As far as specific critique - your plains (ground plane in particular) is far too bright for such an overcast sky. You have a dense, stormy cloud cover penetrated by shafts of light yet the entire plane is lit? Composition is vacant....lead in leads right out...colors on the boring side and too cool.

Forest - forest floors don't really have grass...all your greens are similar...and in about 100' it looks like we're on the surface of the sun. Again...get out into some woods...see what's happening. You can modify for effect but you should at least understand.

    Good luck!

I think when looking at your first image, if the light source is that low, the shadows would be very long and sharp and highlights bright. Example: http://farm1.staticflickr.com/128/32...7cfc5a20_z.jpg

In the forest, I'm not liking the big white dot. It's rather blatant, and I just can't stop staring at it. It's a little distracting.
So, it has come to this.

That's because it looked like color picked directly from the card.

    If so fore shame.
