..comes out just as sharp as the virtual one. The minotaur is gorgeous too in all it's details. Two more questions: You think you will keep sculpting with 'real life' clays and sculpeys and what did it cost you to print one of your virtual sculpts?

Thanks again. I still sculpt regularly in wax (castilene). In fact I primarily use wax at McFarlane. Although this is changing little by little. I've switched to digital for most of my personal work. I never got in to using sculpey. And I would recommend avoiding sculpey if you want to work on a professional level. Wax is just so much better at holding detail. And of course it doesn't need to be baked. On the other hand, digital sculpting is the way to go now. I don't think there are gonna be many 'analog' sculptors left in this biz. I see it changing every day.

I have a brick of castilene laying around, it's the hard/firm one, you have any tips on how to soften it the best? Hot water didn't work out fine for me.

..and you left one question unanswered, how much it costs you to get 3d printed...

BONUS QUESTION!! How long do you spend mostly working on such sculptures?

Hey sorry... I just let the wax sit under a 75 watt bulb. Put a couple pieces in a pyrex dish or a pie tin. It'll soften up nicely. The 3d print pictured above cost me about 800$. It's a pretty big piece though. I just had another piece printed... 11 inches tall for 1100$. Sculpts take me anywhere from a week to a month.

whoopidoo, so that's still rather expensive. Will be cheaper in the near future I guess.

Very nice work!

A buddy of mine has a recipe for some toy wax that is supposed to be very similar to the wax used at the McFarlane studio. We will be mixing up a batch very soon, and it will be my first time working in wax. Is there anything you would recommend as way as tutorials would go for working in this medium?
