    Quargon's Sketchbook

    I'm a 17 year old aspiring concept artist and after seeing other sketchbooks from young people I thought it time to kick myself into gear. I hope you'll enjoy seeing my progress through the years ^^
    Here's some more finished stuff from my dA gallery http://quargon.deviantart.com/gallery/ :

    Aaaand here are some recent life drawings. Her face is a little dodgy in the last pic though, hah.
    Should be updating at least once a week, thanks for looking.

    Damn man, this is some really good stuff you've got going on.
    I love how you increase the feeling of depth with that corpse lying around in the right corner! It's really well done. The skulls on the opposite side don't add very much though. They seem kind of flat. I can only tell you to keep going, because you're definitely going in the right direction!

    @Stpete : Thanks

    @SophieW : Thank you!

    @Bjulvar : Thanks for the crit, that was the first big piece I have ever done. You're right about the skulls, I believe I added them to just fill the space - could have done with a bit more thought though.

    Here's a bit of life drawing from last week. I have also done 8 pages of A3 studies but the quality of the A3 scanner at school is unbearable. When there's some bright natural light I'll photograph the pages and get them up here.
    Not too much art going on this week because of decisions about uni. I'll be applying for a mix of game art and illustration courses I think.

    Time to get some digital stuff on here.
    First speedpainting was done a few weeks back, the next were done today. Colour is something I really struggle with and need to look into.

    As people have said for 17 this is all quite impressive. The 2 women in the background of the 2nd piece in your first post are bugging me a bit though. Their poses seem a little to similar (it might be because they are facing the same direction). If you changed the direction of one of them or altered the pose so they were not as similar it would make them seem less statue-esque. Just a thought. Keep it up

    Impressive works!
    It's been already said - your skills at the age of 17 are truly amazing.

    The only comment I have is about the big painting of the throne hall with angry minotaur-like dude: composition. Why didn't his horns make it inside the canvas? And why can't we see what's the source of the light above him? I miss that because I am sure you'd come up with something great.

    Cheers,
    Stan

    Thanks a bunch guys, it's nice to know dabbling in digital painting since I was 11 has paid off a bit. Small update of 3 Sargent (how predictable!) studies, focused on colour with these. Still got 11 or so sketchbook pages to scan in.

    @Ghast : That would look a lot nicer actually, I'll try that out ^^

    @stan-c : Great points man! I didn't think about those compositional elements when painting it (*facepalm*), I'll keep things like that in mind next time.

    Thanks a bunch for looking at my sketchbook guys!

    @Ghast : Good point, I'll definitely open that pic up again and do something about that ^^

    @stan-c : Thanks for the great crit. Those thoughts never occured to me whilst I was painting that, I'll think about those things next time, thank you!

    Here's my A3 sketchbook work up till now. Quite a few anatomy book copies and picture studies but I thought it worth posting anyway.
    Some have turned out pretty grubby because of the school scanner, oh well.
