"Hand-Copy" an image allowed ?

Hey there,

hope this is the right place for a post like this.

I wonder if it's allowed to take some random image and re-paint it on canvas or digital?

i.e. THIS picture.

I like the "dirty" way it's painted and I want to do it by myself with oil on canvas. Primarily for my own pleasure.
Furthermore, am I allowed to post it on the web?

As long as you're not selling it or making money off it, AND giving credit where credit's due.

It really depends on the copyright laws wherever you are, but in general it's okay to copy for your own personal use, but you might run into minor problems posting it on the web. Like... a social site might ask you to take it down because they are making an indirect profit from the picture even if you yourself aren't.

You can always try to copy by foot, with a crayon grasped between your toes?

Copying for your personal use is allowed, publication is generally not. If you mean to show the copy to anyone or sell it, get permission from the copyright owner first.

By the way, I looked at "THIS" picture and I don't think it's painted. It looks like a photo run through a 3-level posterization filter and slapped with a few stock Photoshop brushes to make the splatter.

You can make hundreds of these things in a day, provided a steady supply of suitable photos.
